How to Heal a Broken Heart - Donât Make the Common Mistakes
Written by Clay Andrews
So, there you are. Recently dumped and sitting in your half-empty apartment. All your girlfriend’s stuff is gone and the walls and empty corners are a stark reminder that you’re on your own now.
What do you do now?
Well, the first thing you have to do is realize that break ups are common. Don’t kick yourself too hard. Sure, you may have messed up in your relationship. Maybe you even messed up really badly. But no one is perfect, no matter how hard they try. No one can blame you for doing what seemed like the best idea at the time.
Secondly, don’t feel ashamed about your emotions. Lots of guys have this belief that they shouldn’t have any emotions--especially when it comes to women. But men aren’t stone uncaring statues. We’re human beings and we sure as heck have feelings. Don’t feel like you need to stifle them or ignore them.
Next, start to pick up the pieces of your life. I know that it’s hard to deal with the pain of the break up. That’s normal. But you can’t just sit there and mope while you let all the important logistics slide. Maybe you need to find a smaller apartment. Maybe you need to get all your stuff back from her. Maybe you need to figure out who gets to keep the dog.
Set aside a certain amount of time for mourning your loss and safely expressing your feelings either in private or with trusted friends. But other than those times, find the courage to pull yourself together and take care of what you need to.
You also don’t want to let yourself slip. Stay active and exercise or stay social with your friends. The last thing you want is to spiral into a depression where you feel horrible about your life and just kind of stagnate. You’ve got to keep your momentum moving in a positive direction.
Try to make the time to do at least one or two things per week. I know this can be difficult if you’re fighting all those negative feelings of heart break, but you need to do this to keep yourself feeling good.
These are a few tips to help you deal with the broken heart most guys will get after being dumped. This can be a difficult time in your life, but with dedication, you can overcome this challenge.

Dr. Venus Nicolino: You Have To Make Yourself Available To Find Good Relationships
The idea of making yourself more desirable by making yourself less available doesn't make a lot of sense when you think about it. After all, Juliet would have plunged a premature dagger into the heart of her romance with Romeo if she hid in her room rather than go out on her balcony. The end of Sleepless in Seattle shifts from "awww" to "aw, no" if one of the two main characters skips the trip to the Empire State Building. As these examples from fiction show, making yourself
