How to Locate Doctors Who Accept Medicaid

Many people may be frustrated by the fact that some doctors do not take Medicaid patients due to the low premiums that are typically paid by state-run health programs. However, there are many physicians who do accept such insurance, and it is important to know where to find these doctors.
1. The first resource a person can used is the Medicare website, at www.medicare.gov. This website will have a link on the left that says “Facilities & Doctors.” Following this link, a person will find an option that says “Find a Doctor.”
2. It is possible to “Search Providers” on this website with some information. The person will need to choose a specialty and then enter the zip code in question.
3. Some people may wonder why the Medicare website was used. The reason for this is that many doctors who accept Medicare also accept Medicaid. For this reason, it is a good idea to write down the phone numbers of the doctors found using the site stated above, and to call them. When talking to the receptionist, it is important to ask if the doctors in the office accept Medicaid.
4. Another option is to use the phone book. This may not be the best way to find a doctor, but it also may be possible to find certain doctors that are not listed on the Medicare website.
Tips:
It is important to not get discouraged, even if the particular doctor does not accept Medicaid. Instead, it is a good idea to use the opportunity to ask if that doctor knows someone who does accept Medicaid. Many doctors network with others, and may have information that is impossible to get anywhere else.
