How to Make a Website Secure
Written by Jass Sawhney
Websites are part and parcel of the 21st century and can be considered lifelines of many individuals, institutes, local community groups, all sorts of businesses, media houses and any one with a need to interact with the global audience. With the advent of cutting edge new technologies in fields of communication and Information Technology (IT) sector, internet and World Wide Web (WWW) have become the focal points of our society and culture in the entire global scene. The information and resource sharing is going on full swing with over 14 billion indexed webpages and more than 2 billion internet users spread across the globe. However, growing number of attacks from miscreants and fraudulent hackers on online sites and people identities has become a considerable threat, which highlights the fact that maintaining a safe and secure website is nothing but need of the hour.
Evidently, internet and its registered domains represent a portal for information exchange and online interaction for many individuals all over the world. However, conce
s regarding data security and the access-limited information available on internet, are rising significantly owing to their risky and problematic nature, thanks to the surging hacker population. With the vast expanse of internet, a secure site asks for encrypted data transfer to access-limited subscribers, making sure that identities of the users remain safe and inaccessible to superfluous parties, along with being impregnable from unnecessary spam. Further, acquiring inconspicuous data from the web is getting easier everyday with many hacking individuals offering infiltration services and software tools, in return for some payment. There is also bright side to such problems, for instance, if I want to make my site secure, I can always seek help from professional ethical hacking firms and individuals, in order to avoid putting my online presence and information on leverage.
Designing a secure e commerce site also asks for great emphasis and efforts at keeping it hacking proof and safe from malicious attacks from miscreants. Such websites contain both open to public and access-limited vital information (payment and credit / debit card details), which must be carefully concealed within their programming code and indexing on the web. Hackers usually create their own crawlers and source codes, in order to gain access to a website's interior resource fields and back gates. Hence, a secure website must ensure that data encryption is used and no loopholes are left in their programming code that can be exploited by the phony parties and hacking softwares. At present, for a safe internet browsing experience, most networks identify Internet Protocol (IP) addresses and Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) on the basis of their website certificate. Along with that security certificate are also used to regulate unwanted access to the websites and information content, which usually claim as web source as either 'trusted' or 'untrusted', depending upon the situation.
