Written by Eric Westman
With its delicious taste and nutritional benefits, sushi rolls is gaining recognition throughout the world. Usually, there are two types of sushi rolls namely finger rolls and nori rolls. Finger rolls consist of sushi rice topped with wasabi and fish, while nori rolls have rice and various ingredients such as crab or fish. Among the two types of sushi rolls, nori rolls are popular worldwide.
Now, let’s see the ingredients that make sushi rolls not just delicious but nutritious too:
- 1 piece bamboo rolling mat (Makisu) - 80gr Imitation crab meat
- Thinly sliced Avocado
- 3/4 cup sushi rice
- Thinly sliced cucumber
- 1 dark green nori sheet
- Toasted black/white sesame seeds
It’s time to start making delicious & tempting sushi rolls:
First you need is a roll mat. When you roll them, rice might easily stick with the mat. To avoid rice from sticking to the roll mat, use plastic cling film to wrap the roll mat. Using cling film will also increase the lifespan of rolling mat
Place a nori or half piece of nori on the mat. Make sure the shiny side of nori is facing down.
Grab a handful of sushi rice and evenly spread the sushi rice over the nori using fingers. To avoid rice from sticking to your finger, wet your hand with water and vinegar solution.
Usually, rice is outside on California rolls. So, carefully flip the rice-coated nori sheet. Make sure the rice-coated side of nori is down.
Now, place the crab meat in the middle of the nori sheet. When it’s up to filling, you can make use of Japanese omelette, cucumber, BBQ eel, tuna mayo or avocado as fillings.
After placing crab meat, place thinly sliced Avocado right against the crab. Keeping thinly sliced avocado helps you to place more slices based on the size of sushi rolls.
Finally, place some thinly sliced cucumber end to end right alongside the crab and avocado. Usually, Japanese cucumber are used often in sushi rolls due to its less watery and softer skin, but if you are unable to find Japanese cucumber then you can use regular cucumber
Now, it’s time to start rolling your sushi rolls. When rolling apply light pressure over the rolls to keep them firm while cutting. After rolling completely, apply light pressure again to make sure the sushi rolls are firm.
After making sure your sushi rolls is firm, remove the mat carefully. Now, place the sushi rolls on the mat and sprinkle toasted Siamese seeds over the rolls.
To cut the sushi rolls, use a very sharp knife. To avoid sushi rolls from sticking, dip the knife in water and vinegar solution prior to cutting.
