Starting a career and knowing how to quit your job is a big step and one that most people will never take because they are afraid of losing security. There is nothing wrong with that but for some of us, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Now, if you’re happy with your job and your career is doing well, you are probably just where you should be. If you want to know how to quit your job and start a new career, read on. First thing you should do is come up with a plan and make sure it’s detailed. The more you can put down on paper, the more likely it will get done. Don’t stress over it but just write what comes into your head. Make a list of things you would like to do in a new career and then consider each option carefully. Ask yourself what it will take to get started in this new career. Do you need specialized training? Will you go back to school? Maybe an internship will work. Here is how to quit your job the right way:
  • Write down all the reasons you want to quit-your boss or manager will appreciate this
  • Set a date for quitting your job-this may change depending on the rest of your plan but it’s good to have this set in your mind.
  • Don’t quit your job if you have no backup plan-you still have to pay bills and buy groceries so don’t put extra stress by quitting without having resources to carry you through.
  • Take the list of things you would like to do and make a plan-can you combine all of the things you would like to do into one career and how to accomplish this?
  • Research ways to take the first step-training program, self guided learning or formal education
  • Take the first step-join a training program, sign up for a class or buy the books you need
  • Stick to your plan-making changes like this takes time and lots of efforts so don’t give up too easily.
  • Reassess your plan-refine it and add to it as needed if things aren’t working
  • Consult experts-talk to people that can help you quit your job and move forward in your career. It could be a school counselor or someone that has developed his or her own successful program. Find a mentor to guide you.
If it’s time for you to quit your job and start a new career, you are in good company. Thousands of people every day take this all-important step and many will succeed. Maybe starting your own business is the path you’ve decided on since this will give you the best return for your investment. Creating an online business has it’s own rewards and can be perfect for the entrepreneurial type personality. You can choose to sell or promote any product, service or program you choose. Live where you want and work when you want. It sounds like the best situation, right?
