How to Remove a Wart at Home
Written by Phil Rosser
Are you one of the many people who have warts on their hands, face, feet or other area of the body? Warts are quite common and usually harmless, most people would prefer to have theirs removed, particularly from clearly visible areas. If you are one of those individuals, you will want to know more about effective, yet affordable ways to remove a wart at home.
Over the years many so called home remedies have been used for removing a wart. These mostly involve treating the wart with a product many people would already have at home. A lot of people would prefer to try these solutions as they feel embarrassed by their condition and wish to eliminate it in the privacy of their own homes. They also feel using ingredients that are already in the home is likely to be safer than some wart cream they buy over the counter that might be full of unpronouncable chemicals.
A recent addition to the wart remedy list of effective home treatments is duct tape. Scientific studies have shown that for many people this can be effective, although it can take several applications and several weeks to completely remove a wart. The warts are covered with duct tape for about a week, then the tape is removed. After soaking the wart in water for a few minutes it is then scrubbed with a pumice stone. Sometimes the wart will come off right away, but if this is not successful the procedure is repeated, for at least another week or two. Of course this method is not very practical if the wart is very visible - who wants to walk around with duct tape on their face for a couple of weeks?
Other things I have seen recommended include bananas, baking soda, papaya, dandelion, aspirin, chalk, lemon juice, milkweed, castor oil, and aloe, and you can probably find several more. Whatever you want to try, you should ensure you do not have an allergy to any of the ingredients or you could make matters worse.
One of the more popular of these is castor oil. The oil is massaged into the wart and its surrounding area a few times each day for a number of weeks, and eventually the wart will disappear. If you are using aloe the procedure is similar to that for castor oil with results after a few weeks. with both of these you may speed up the process by keeping the wart covered with some of the active ingredient in contact with the wart at all times.
With all of these procedures when trying out a home wart remedy you must adhere to the highest standards of cleanliness. Warts are caused by a virus and any fluid leaking from a wart under treatment may contain the virus. You must ensure that this does not come into contact with other parts of your body or with other people, or the virus can spread. You may get rid of a wart only to find a fresh infection somewhere else.
You will find that there are some enterprising people who have taken the best of these home wart remedies and tested different combinations and come up with a very effective wart cream which can give great results in just a few days.
