How to safely sell a used car
Written by Ted Pass
Selling your own car might require lots of effort. Let's face it – it's not something most of us do on a daily basis. Therefore, we need to keep in mind that this event could cause lots of stress. However, letting yourself being frayed with nerves is a bad idea, as this creates a leeway for some mistakes you can commit. There are actually a few safety measures you need to keep in mind, while you sell your wheels.
First things first, while preparing the listing for your car, be sure it doesn't contain any details on you, like the address or your last name. Also, you'd better avoid posting pictures that might give the viewer a hint on where the car is located. What are these precautions for? Well, don't forget that Internet is full of criminals. They might just spot any valuables easily and rob you of these almost immediately.
So, what information do you include in the listing? Well, under no circumstances should you put your e-mail address here. This is the easiest way to get your address stolen by spammers. In order to remain on the safe side, you can just include your name as well as cell phone's number.
Talking about safety, don't forget that the potential buyer would probably ask you to let them behind the wheel. This is perfectly normal and you shouldn't oppose to it. However, don't forget about the basic safety rules of thumb while doing it. To begin with, be sure to remove any valuables from the buyer's sight. This would minimize the risk of your losing these. Apart from this, you should never let the potential buyer drive away on their own. Instead, you'd better accompany them, by sitting on the passenger's seat.
While choosing the meeting place, you need to keep safety in mind as well. Be sure to pick places that are frequented by lots of people. This would probably discourage every person with unclear intentions from making any harm to you or your possessions. Also, never let the buyer choose the place. It is you that needs to determine this. In addition, you have to remember to meet with the buyer during daylight, as in the night the risk of any criminal activity is much higher.
Following all these safety tips, you would surely minimize the risk and will be able to say: “I managed to sell my car safely. I found a client to buy my car”. However, if you're a little afraid of the dangers that are all around, you might consider selling your car to a professional used cars broker. This ensures that the whole transaction is safe. You just need to provide the local broker with the basic info on the car (make, model, and the year it was built.) Apart from this, before you contact them, make sure to collect all the documents (like the title.) Your car will be then towed away from you, and you will get the money, provided of course, that you complete all the arrangements.
