You have probably told yourself time and time again, “This is a weight loss diet that I can stick with.” A month or so down the line you are saying the same thing about a different diet. So why is it so hard to stay motivated when attempting to lose weight? It is because diets do not work!

Most diets are based on restricting your food intake. This means even if your body is craving chocolate, you cannot eat it. If your body wants one more piece of pizza, and you are still hungry, again you can’t have it. These type of weight loss diets ultimately leave you hungry, irritable, and craving more food. Like most people, this is the time when the diet fails. You give into those cravings and end up eating a lot more than you had planed because your body has been deprived for so long.

How can you stay motivated while you are on a weight loss diet?

Simple - stop dieting!

This may come as quite a shock to you. In order to lose weight, you must stop dieting! This is because diets do not work. What does work is losing weight in a natural and healthy way. When you do not fight your body about what foods to eat, your body will begin to lose weight. This type of weight loss diet is called the non-diet approach.

The non-diet approach to weight loss focuses on the physical, emotional and mental aspects of weight loss in order to help you achieve your goals. The physical aspect of this weight loss system teaches you to develop a healthy relationship with your body. You allow your body to be a guide as to what you should be eating. You can eat what your body wants and still lose weight.

This may seem a bit unbelievable to you. Let me further explain. Your body knows what it needs in order to be at a healthy weight. When your body is telling you that it is hungry, you eat. This will reduce the amount of times when your body has to fight back and begin to lower its metabolism. When your body tells you it is full, it is time to stop eating. This will reduce the amount of times that you overeat.

Throughout the years of attempting many weight loss diets, you may have come up with and believe several myths. Each person has their own set of myths about dieting. These myths are often accompanied by negative thoughts. These thoughts are typically about yourself and/or your abilities. The non-diet approach to weight loss focuses on the mental and emotional aspects of dieting. This means all the negative myths and thoughts that you hold onto will change into positive self-talk. When you are feeling positive about yourself and your abilities, you will maintain a high level of motivation to obtain your goals.
