There are so many different brands and types of nursing scrubs out there, so how do you know what will fit you when you are buying your scrubs online? Every brand has different sizing, so it’s difficult to know how something will fit you without trying it on. However, if you know how to measure your body, this task can be made much easier. All you need is a measuring tape and you’re good to go! Having a mirror in front of you couldn’t hurt, either. Certain websites, such as Uniform Advantage, for example, offer sizing charts that are specific to each particular brand, so that customers will have a basic understanding of how something will fit them without actually trying the garment on. For example, the sizing chart for Barco scrubs might have a different measurement for a medium scrub top than that of Landau scrubs. In addition, sizing changes depending on the style of the uniform. For example, some scrub tops are designed to stay loose fitting, and others are made to hug your body. Going along with this idea, some scrubs are designed specifically for a woman’s body, while others are designed for men. Men usually have broader shoulders and larger necks, so their scrubs will measure a little bigger for the sizes generally. Women’s scrubs are designed for more room in the chest, and are usually a slimmer fit. In order to measure your body, the best place to start would be the chest. Take the measuring tape and wrap it around your body, making sure it is going over the fullest area of the bust/chest and under the arms, with your arms down (having a buddy aid you at this point might be helpful). Be sure to keep the tape straight and level while measuring, otherwise you will not get an accurate reading. After getting your chest measured, stand with your heels together and wrap the tape around the fullest part of your hips. Here, make sure the tape is parallel to the floor to ensure that you are getting the right measurement. Then, simply match your chest and hip size using the size chart, and you’ll find the right size for you! If your measurements fall in between two sizes, it’s always best to go for the larger size, because some garments may shrink when washed. This simple task can help you save a lot of time when you are searching for new scrubs. Knowing your measurements will allow you to shop online and make a purchase in an instant, and you can even use your cell phone!
