Psoriasis is an inflammatory disease that causes skin redness and irritation. It is often indicated by presence of thick red skin with flaky white patches called scales. Amidst the number of skin problem, it is one of the common one. There are different types of psoriasis categorized namely plaque psoriasis, guttate, pustular, inverse and erythrodermic.

Plaque psoriasis is manifested by appearance of raised red patched with silvery white buildup of dead skins or commonly known scales. They are often itchy as well as painful and might bleed. Usually, they appear on the knees, elbows, lower back and scalp.

Psoriasis is said to be an autoimmune disease, which can be defined as a disease in which the immune system of the individual attacks healthy tissues. This skin condition can affect anyone and at any age however it is believed to be genetic. It generally occurs to people with compromised immune system which may be caused due to HIV or other autoimmune diseases.

What are the major symptoms?

Being a skin disorder, the major symptoms of psoriasis include irritated, red, flaky patches on skin. Dry and covered with silver scales which are raised and thick while being pinkish red in color. Such skin problem or anything similar to it must not be ignored and should be treated ASAP.
