How to Value a Diverse Workforce
Written by James Dacanay
Making sure your workforce performs as highly as possible for you is integral, especially today when there are more businesses operating in every sector than ever before. With shops shutting down on the high street all the time, it is easy to assume that if you are still succeeding then you are one of the lucky few, but with cyberspace filled with millions of companies of all kinds, there is actually more competition than ever for a dwindling level of custom.
Therefore, no matter what industry your business is in, it is important to get the most out of your staff if you want to compete and thrive, and in turn employee motivation is going to be key. However, there rises a problem with this in that trying to keep a diverse workforce happy and rewarding them in a way that will appeal to everyone can be all but impossible. Some companies choose to reward good work with trips away or staff outings, but again this can actually lead to arguments and frustration rather than harmonious working environments and the feeling of being valued, as staff will often argue over what constitutes a good staff reward.
Therefore, when it comes to increasing employee motivation, it is often best to reward individuals separately, offering a wide range of incentives for staff to choose from and ensuring that the rewards you offer will cater for all tastes.
There are companies who specialise in staff incentives and finding one that understands the disparity in generational response is integral. Whilst younger staff members may be motivated by digital rewards, older employees are likely to favour a more physical prize.
Tastes will also change due to location and a moving zeitgeist so be sure that the company you choose is able to cater to international differences and is aware of changing trends at all times.
