A resume needs to be written well because it represents an individual in its absence. So negativity can make an individual lose the job. So a resume needs to be written well, with lots of confidence, not over confidence because it may look like the applicant is over exaggerating about its self. The tone of the resume should be simple and polite and not show the interviewer, that the applicant is too over-confident about getting the job.A resume should always include the individual’s achievements so that the interviewer can come to know that the applicant is good at his job. The individual’s objective should be portrayed in such a manner that in just one look the interviewer should get the feeling that the candidate is perfect for the job. The objective should be narrowed down and shouldn’t be too wordy. The applicant should make the interviewer feel that he/she is the best for that job position.

A resume should not be very lengthy. Nobody has the time to read such a long resumes. A lengthy resume means waste of time, paper and resources. Only relevant and necessary information should be provided in the resume, according to the needs of the job. Avoid spelling and grammatical mistakes. Spelling and grammatical mistakes makes the interviewer feel that the applicant is not good in verbal and communication skills. Space should be minimized as much as possible. This increases the length of the resume. Unnecessary usage of spaces makes the resume look bad and uneven.

A resume should not be very small also.It should be a maximum of 2 pages (back to back) and not more than it.A resume should include tables where ever possible. Usage of tables makes the resume look neat and tidy. Highlight all the important and necessary points in a resume. By highlighting the important points it becomes easier for the interviewer to know the applicants strong points. So next time if the interviewer is checking the resume he/she doesn’t really need to struggle through the resume and the interviewer can remember the highlighted points easily.A resume should be well formatted and should not contain any formatting errors. Indentations should be used where ever possible. Page numbers should be put on each and every page. While writing a resume the individual should mention his/her achievements, even if it is not regarding the particular job. Positives and negatives should also be mentioned in the resume. But there is sometimes a catch out here.

If the individual is sure that he/she will not be crossed check on the positives and negatives or if he/she can answer the questions on it,then only it would be advisable for the applicant to mention about the positives and negatives. In many interviews it happens that the whole interview goes good and then suddenly, the applicants get confused or fumble up while answering for the positives and negatives and then may lose the job.If the applicants want that their names should be remembered among all the other applicant’s names, then the names and objectives should be highlighted, so that the interviewer can remember the name of the applicant while going through other resumes. In a resume the individual’s caste, religion, height, weight, name of father, mother, spouse, relatives and references that cannot be checked should not be included, because these things do not matter in an interview.
