Writing texts for the Internet is a field that has its own rules - it's good to learn SEO copywriting. Apart from factors such as the position of the page itself, content promotion and popularity of the publishing site, we - the writers - have a big impact on the popularity of our texts on the web. Cheetahpapers gives you more tips on SEO copywriting.

Only a few years ago, when I was learning the art of journalism, we were rarely taught the principles of writing articles for the Internet. Generally, it boiled down to gluing the ready-made paper version to CMS (but did traditional journalists know what CMS was? Where?). Today, people running blogs or websites are difficult to imagine that they would ignore the rules for writing texts to the Internet - the so-called SEO copywriting. These rules are aimed, among others, at positioning the article on Google and gathering a lot of traffic. Journalism has split in terms of the reality in which it operates, and for several years now the Internet has dominated.

SEO copywriting is a powerful positioning support

I will start with a bold thesis - we read a lot today. No, not books, but texts, articles on the Internet, blogs, guides, forum discussions. People who write texts (be it journalists or copywriters, bloggers or industry influencers) know that to appear on the web they have to follow the principles of optimization, i.e. technical rules. Also, there is a group of topics that are accepted on the Internet and are more likely to attract readers.

In the blogosphere, you will find many guides on preparing blog entries or writing texts on the Internet. Today I have prepared my guide covering the most important (in my opinion) aspects of SEO copywriting. I focus on texts published on blogs, but many of the tips below apply to websites. I do not provide here an advice on product descriptions, which I intend to write a separate text. How do you write, read, enjoy, and position? I invite you to read the rest of the book.

Subject - Key Phrase - Headline

Correct SEO copywriting is also based on the relationship that occurs between the subject, key phrase, and headline. These three elements should be the same, which does not mean that they sound identical (but good to be). For example, you write on a travel blog about ideas for cheap Croatia tours - this is your topic already containing a hint of keywords to put in the text and title of the article. These words are the phrase "cheap sightseeing" and "Croatia". The title should contain them. Your titles can therefore be:

• "Cheap Croatia sightseeing",
• "Cheap sightseeing: Croatia",
• "How to cheaply explore Croatia"
• ... and dozens of other combinations.

The keyword phrase and Yoast plugin for WordPress appear

The basis for optimizing text for search engines is placing the key phrase in the most important elements of the text. Seo copywriting involves placing them in:

• Title (h1 tag),
• Meta description (if you have the appropriate plugin in your editor),
• Subheadings (h2 and h3 tags),
• In several places in the paragraphs of the text (in the lead at the beginning, one at the end, several in the middle).
I recommend preparing a separate meta description with a key phrase and a summary text in two sentences, what the text is about and why it is cool.

If your blog/portal works based on WordPress, it is worth installing the Yoast for SEO plugin - a kind of checklist that tells you to step by step what you still need to do to get the green SEO light (i.e. optimized text correctly). Of course, you don't always have to blindly follow the SEO guidelines and push keywords into places where they don't match. Remember that such text may look unnatural, but worst of all - readers may feel discouraged and less important than a search engine. This cannot be allowed - the reader is the most important thing

Photos and attributes of ALT

Blog entries and articles should contain illustrations. The text is then more attractive to the reader's eye, and also, has a good effect on its position in the search engine. The image should illustrate the subject of the text - even technical topics can be spiced up with photos or graphics. If you don't know where to get free illustrations on your blog, be sure to check out my guide Top 10 free image banks.

Illustration of the entry/article/ product description should be optimized for search engines. First of all, the picture cannot be too big, because it extends the page loading time, and therefore - does not meet one of the basic factors affecting the position of the page. The image should be resized in the graphics program, it is also good to reduce its weight. There are sites where you can reduce the size of online illustrations - for example, here or here.

Another issue is the name of the image - at the stage of uploading them to the CMS, name the files so that they reflect what is in the image. Additionally, fill in the key phrase "Alternative text" (in WordPress). You can also do it from the page code in HTML - here you should use the following formula:

Alternative title

Internal and external linking

Well, the optimized text should have links. For both the search engine and the reader it is a signal that the page is authentic, extensive, interesting. This affects the natural-looking link structure, and this is a step closer to a higher position in the search engine.

What kind of links are they supposed to be? For example, if you are submitting the information that you found on another page, please provide its source. You can provide such links with a neutral anchor, e.g. "Here", "See", "Read here". Also, it is worth ensuring internal linking to other entries and subpages of our blog/page. This will affect the length of the reader's visit to the site, besides, you can interest him in other articles. Portals very often interweave paragraphs of their articles with links to other articles.

Text composition

The composition and structure of the text are of great importance and decide whether the reader will start reading it at all. It cannot be a monolith - the text should be divided into fragments (paragraphs, paragraphs), and each fragment should begin with a new aspect/issue that you deal with within the text. The announcement subheading should also be used, as the next paragraph applies. Nobody wants to read concrete printed in small font. All types of bullets work well - they organize messages and ensure better visual reception of the text.

Good SEO copywriting should include the so-called lead (or lid), which is a short text introducing the reader to the subject of the article. There are several types of leads, for example, summary lead, question lead, thesis lead, etc. This is the fragment that is to encourage further reading as soon as the article header is scanned. It is good to make it bold and visibly separate from the rest of the text. At this point, you should also give a key phrase, preferably at the beginning, so that the reader knows that the text corresponds to the question that interests him.

Spelling and punctuation

This is such obvious obviousness, however, nothing offsets the reader like spelling errors and "Commas, in wrong places" ( Fan page for insiders ). Composing a long, complicated sentence is a big temptation. The problem is that many people can't keep up with the structure of long statements and use punctuation incorrectly. It is sometimes good to divide this Homeric sentence into a few shorter ones. The text will gain dynamics and the risk of linguistic error will decrease. We should also remember that before we publish something, it is worth checking it many times and in every respect - substantive, linguistic, spelling, check typos, etc. The sources of information must be true and indicated - it is best to link them.

How to write and what is the style of writing?

The writing style is something that distinguishes us, people who write. Every great writer has/had his style, every journalist leaves a trace of himself in his texts and every blogger should develop his style. It can be writing on the stream of consciousness - why not? It can be exalted, romantic or on the contrary - cool, informative. It's important to have your.

Seo copywriting is still journalism, and its most important function is information. Everyone who writes has the task to convey some information, sometimes arouse controversy, sometimes provoke discussion or just make someone's time more enjoyable. Therefore, do not postpone your texts, do not go round and round at one point, do not try to make a scientific synthesis of a given issue in a blog entry. The most difficult is choosing what is important and interesting.
