Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Written by Edward Lopez
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment where 100% pure oxygen is administrated at greater than normal pressure in order to treat specific medical conditions. Long established as the primary therapy in treating medical disorders such as carbon monoxide poisoning and gas gangrene, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is increasingly being used on an adjunctive basis in the management of variety of disorders refractory to standard medical and surgical care.
BENEFITS:
Oxygen is essential to any healing process. Through HBOT, the concentration of the oxygen dissolved in the bloodstream is thus raised many times above normal (up to 2000%). Because of this high concentration of oxygen, HBOT is used to accelerate the healing process after plastic surgery, wound care, burn victims and many neurologic, orthopedic as well as emergency conditions and degenerative diseases. In addition to the blood, all body fluids including the lymph and cerebral-spinal fluids are infused with healing benefits of this molecular oxygen. It can reach bone and tissue wich are not accessible to the red blood cells, enhance white blood cell function and promote the formation of new capillary and peripheral blood vessels.
COSMETIC AND SURGICAL PROCEDURES:
HBOT is generally used as an adjunctive but effective recovery therapy in cosmetic related treatments. HBOT is highly recommended after any type of cosmetic or surgical procedure. Saturated levels of 100% oxygen in bloodstream as well as body fluids, accelerates the formation of new capillary and peripheral blood vessels. This results in an effective and accelerated post-operative healing with better aesthetic results. Post-operative recovery in conjunction with HBOT may be in days rather than weeks with less tissue trauma and a remarkable reduction of swelling and bruising with a substantial control of possible infections.
