âI sense great fear in you.â
Written by George Thompson
Yoda spoke these words to the young Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars the Phantom Menace. If there is one thing we all can relate to it is fear. Fear has the innate ability to eat away at our life’s desires.
Ask yourself what dreams have you let die because of fear? Where would you be in life if fear had not ruled your thoughts? Do I fear staying in the position that I’m in now? The only time in life one should fear is when they are not growing into the person they dream of becoming.
To often we tend not to go after our dreams because of the fear of what other people will say or think. But consider this, you are a sole entity onto yourself. Your life should not revolve around the expectations others have of you. There will be people who tell you that you can’t reach a certain goal, but you cannot let their feelings inpact your accomplishments. You can't allow negativity to instill fear into your mind. Sometimes this is easier said than done. In those situations you need to reach way into your heart and your desire and remember this: there are a vast array of famous names that changed our world. These people did not give into fear: Henry Ford, Bill Gates, Martin Luther King. What did these people have that you don’t? Nothing! They just didn’t let fear stop them for achieving their goals. They turned their fear into triumph and the world is better for it.
Your life goals should be the reason you get up in the morning.
The following are exercises you can do to combat the fear game:
1)Keep in mind what you are trying to accomplish in life when fear tries to invade your thoughts think about the alternative. What would happen if you decided not to go after your goal.
2)Avoid negative people. There will be people who will say your goals are not possible. (You don’t need any more fears than you’re already fighting).
3)Remember that we ourselves give our fears much more mass than they really have.
Bottom Line: Fear, harnessed and pointed towards your goals become courage. Continue to point your life in the right direction.
