I Want A Gluten Free Wedding, And My Dreams Are Valid!

For many years gluten has been a big monster in my life. To begin with, for a long time growing up I had to only eat at home because it’s only there that I could avoid eating foods containing gluten. My mom made it her sole responsibility to rid our kitchen of all products containing gluten. You must be thinking how this was an extremely horrible and unfair decision for the rest of the family. Well, this was in fact the best decision for everyone seeing that only two of my siblings are not gluten intolerant.

What is this gluten monster, you ask? Gluten is a protein found in certain cereals; rye, oats, wheat, etc. which cannot be digested by the small intestines of people intolerant to the protein. As a result, gluten intolerant people, people who are allergic to gluten or those with celiac disease must keep off even the smallest amounts of gluten. Gluten can be found in small quantities even in some manufacture products that are not gluten for example some brands of tomato sauce.

Since gluten is genetically passed on, it’s not uncommon to find several members of a family either gluten intolerant or with celiac disease. So anyway, at home we’re used to living on gluten free foods. We have in fact customized several recipes for different foods and make tasty gluten free foods.

My wedding is coming up soon and I had started getting stressed on whether I will be able to find a gluten free bakery to handle my gluten free wedding cake order. Replacing wheat flour with other types of flour like corn flour, rice flour, hemp flour, quinoa flour or nutsedge flour is not really impossible, it’s just different. Restaurants and bakeries that are not used to using gluten free ingredients will in fact find it very complicated.

After being disappointed with some of the store-bought gluten free breads and gluten free cakes, we ended up purchasing our own bread maker. In fact, apart from San Diego gluten free bakery, I don’t know any other place that I or any of my family members can buy gluten free cakes or gluten free bread.

I’m not really worried about my gluten free wedding because my mom has proven that it’s possible to make almost every type of food with gluten free ingredients. I have already talked to one of the best carters at San Diego gluten free bakery about a possible gluten free menu for my wedding. He says anything and everything is possible when it comes to gluten free foods for a wedding. The gluten free wedding cake is a done deal. Maybe the deserts will give him some little challenge and will force him to be creative but there’s no doubt in my head that he’ll be able to pull a gluten free wedding for me.
