I own an Internet Home Business and I just wasted months on this issue and it is something that you should be aware of. I started up my Internet Home Business about a year ago and one of the first things my “expert“ told me was that content was king and to get as much of my own personal material up on the site as soon as possible and as often as possible.

Now a year later, I have found out things that I wish I had know at the time, mistakes that I made that I would not make now, but I can’t change what I had for breakfast, let alone what I have done for the last year, so I have to just suck it up and move on. 1. If you own an Internet Home Business you have to make sure you figure out your keywords, BEFORE you spend time on putting any kind of content on your site. You may think that is a no brainier, but I made that mistake and I am not the only one who has. For some background on Keywords, Google has a good section on their site. Once you have spent some time on selecting your keywords, you now can start to put up your information, with an eye on making sure your information is relevant and interesting to your visitors as well as having enough keywords for the search engines.

2. This is a fine line we have to walk; we need to have a site that compliments our Internet Home Business, as well as a site that will get ranked so we do indeed have a business, complete with traffic. The information on our sites should be written as if there are no search engines; we should cater to our customers first and foremost. As I said, it’s a fine line we have to walk.

4. Another mistake I made was submitting over 100 original content articles to hundreds of article directory sites, all without keywords in them. Kind of embarrassing to admit that here and now, but I actually did it. There were several mistakes in that disaster. Not having keywords in the articles, made them absolutely useless in the eyes of the search engines. I could not figure out why I was not getting the massive traffic the article directory submission company was promising me, now I know why.

5. An article, that does not have keywords in it, is like driving your car in the middle of a huge desert, in the middle of the night, with your headlights off; you are invisible to the world. Keywords in your articles, on your Internet Home Business web site are crucial, if you want to be seen by the search engines.

Before I go, one more mistake that I made that has recently come to my attention. I wrote over 100 original articles and then proceeded to put those articles on my own Internet Home Business web site, as well as submitting the same articles to the article directory sites. By doing that, I was basically competing against and with myself. When you do this, what happens is that the search engines will pick one of the sites that your material appears on, identify that site as the “original sit “ and declare all of the other appearing sites as duplicating sites. Duplicate content is not a value to you for SEO purposes.
