In view of the VoIP Phone Service Economy
Written by John Peterson
It seems like everywhere you go these days, people talk about VOIP phone service that they received and how much they like it. Many college students do not even have their own dorm room or apartment for a regular telephone, but instead they choose a VoIP phone service. What is the ruckus? Do you ever feel like you were missing something and not know what it was?
VoIP can be a good thing for you, but you need to be sure you understand what it is and what is not. VoIP phone service has disadvantages that you need to know so you can decide if VoIP is right for you.
VoIP phone service uses your existing high-speed Internet connection and allows you to make and receive phone calls over the Internet. That is just what VoIP bottom line summary. But you need to dig under the surface in order to determine if VoIP is right for you.
First, not all parts of the country can get a local phone number. If you live in a rural area, chances are that a local phone number to your VOIP service is not going to be available. What this means is that if someone local wants to call you, even your neighbor's next, they can make long distance call to reach you.
Yes, you can "port" your existing phone number to a VoIP service, but there were so many horror stories about how the phone company screws up that I would not recommend this option. It should be simple, it should be solid, but like so many other things that do not reflect what happens in reality is simple.
You will also need high-speed internet conection, and it is not provided with a VoIP service from any IP telephony service providers. They think you already have. In many cases they are right, as a home DSL and cable Internet prices domestic prices are constantly going down. But even if you already have a high-speed Internet access, you should carefully consider the following two paragraphs:
1st High-speed Internet connection or satellite. If you have a satellite high-speed Internet connection, I do not for VOIP, because you will not be happy. Of course they will sell it to you, but the satellite high-speed connection, you will not be happy, and you sound like you are talking, at best, the bottom of the tub.
2nd Does your existing high-speed internet connection reliable? Remember, when leaving their high-speed Internet connection, your VoIP service, and you can not make or receive calls. If you and your DSL speed is very slow, because you are not the end of the barrel, VoIP can be a problem there.
Now, if you were not scared away yet, then VOIP phone service may be a good idea for you. VoIP call quality is usually as good as or better than your traditional phone call. But the big draw of VOIP are economic considerations. With your phone company, telephone line costs about $ 25 a month and you get a dial tone, and perhaps unlimited local calls. To do this, and everything else added. But with VoIP phone service, you get unlimited calling throughout the continental U.S. (some VoIP service providers as well as Canada), plus caller ID, voice mail and call waiting plus, and VoIP service costs about the same amount of money, and some VoIP providers, even and at $ 20 per month. Even if they are the same, the fact that long distance is already included in your VoIP service is a huge benefit.
