When to visit Zanzibar?
For a trip to Zanzibar, there is not a perfect period. The island of Zanzibar can be visited all year long!
Zanzibar has a tropical climate where it is hot and sunny all year round with an average temperature of around 27 degrees. No matter what time you travel, there is not necessarily a better time to plan your vacation.
However, you can expect a little rain in April and in May, during the rainy season. Temperatures are always pleasant and warm, but there may be torrents of water at times. On the east side, showers usually do not last more than 20 minutes. Then the sky clears and the sun shines again. That's all!
What to do in Zanzibar: The coasts and beaches
Before booking Zanzibar holiday packages you need to know what to do. On the north and east coast of the island are the famous beaches of pearly white sand. Having the most beautiful sandy beaches in the world, Zanzibar is known for having one of the best scuba diving and snorkeling sites in the world. An essential activity during your vacation in Zanzibar! Diving or snorkeling in Zanzibar means admiring corals, sea turtles, seahorses and many other species of fish.
The east coast of Zanzibar is subject to strong tides. When the tide is high, you can go swimming and snorkeling and when it's low, it's time to go for a nice walk, spot the starfish, crabs and other animals that hide in the shallow pools. It is advisable to put on shoes and especially, do not forget your camera! On the west coast, it is also possible to dive at low tide.
Further along, on the southeast coast of Zanzibar, you will find the cities of Jambiani, Paje, and Bwejuu. Jambiani is one of our favorite cities because there is so much to do and the beaches are beautiful. You can also swim with dolphins or sail on a dhow (traditional Arab ship) in the south and southeast.
On the south-west coast, less known, you will find beautiful beaches generally quieter, sometimes even deserted! Perfect for a trip for two. During your trip to Zanzibar, we recommend heading to the Menai Bay Conservation Area, an incredibly beautiful underwater world for divers of all levels. Sometimes we even see humpback whales! South of Zanzibar is the town of Kizimkazi, best known for its dolphin safaris.
In the north, you will find the cities of Uroa, Pongwe, Kiwengwa, Matemwe, Nungwi, and Kendwa. Eastside, it's quiet and there are fewer tourists. The north (west) is the tourist and most popular part of Zanzibar.
Visit Stone Town: our favorite excursion!
Visit Stone Town is to dive into the heart of a city with a rich history and an interesting mix of cultures. Many residents come from the origins of the Arab world, Africa and India. The city is full of narrow streets where you walk, you smell of spices, fruits, and vegetables from traditional markets. As you walk, take a look at the unique and beautifully decorated wooden doors.
You can also visit the old slave market and the House of Wonders (Beit el Ajaib), the ancient ceremonial palace of the Sultan. The imposing white belfry and the high columns are worth seeing. We strongly advise you to visit it during your holidays in Zanzibar.
Organizing a trip to Zanzibar seems simple: you can book Zanzibar tour packages, airplanes, accommodation, buy tickets without queuing and much more.
