Sinus fungal infection is categorized into four different categories: * Fungal Ball - this is an overgrowth of elements related to a certain fungus that infects your cheeks or maxillary sinus. This organism belongs to family Aspergillus, which is causing for fungal ball infection on the sinus. Most people who suffer from this condition are those who have a recurrent history or sinus fungal infection. Bone destruction may not occur but this fungus often blocks the sinuses and the treatment is the fungal ball's removal. * Allergic Fungal Sinus Infection - this is often due to a fungus that belongs the family Dematiaceous that is also very common in your environment. You may experience having nasal polyps and thick drainage when this virus infects you. The treatment may include the re-establishment of your sinus drainage and removal of all the fungal elements. Recurrence of sinusitis due to this fungus is higher compared to fungal ball. This is because people suffering from such condition are allergic to virus components. Infected sinuses may experience blockage and bone destruction and thinning occasionally. Intermittent surgery and long-term medication might be required to manage such condition. Most of the times, long-term medical attention and intermittent surgical management is required. * Acute and Chronic Sinus Fungal Infection - these types of fungal infections are the most deleterious type, but the least common sinusitis condition. When the fungus inhabits the deepest sinus bones and tissues, then this is considered as an acute infection. The chronic type, however, is almost the same as the acute type. Although the acute infection spreads, a lot slower compared to the chronic type. Those who are infected with the fungus, especially those suffering from an acute sinusitis, are the ones who have weak immune systems. Those who are affected with the chronic type, on the other hand, are even those with normal or strong immune systems. Symptoms of Sinus Fungal Infection Chronic and fungal sinusitis symptoms are almost the same. However, aside from that, chronic infections have other symptoms including the following: * Dental and facial painrn * Nasal congestionrn * Feverrn * Cough at nightrn * Eye pain and headachern * Debilitation feelingrn * Bad breath The treatments for a Sinus fungal infection are usually based on the type that is occurring. Most people develop such condition due to their allergies and are often cured with medication and cleaning their surroundings can be very helpful as well. However, you should know that some people have certain histamines that may aggravate the swelling. This is why there are medications that include decongestants and antihistamines to combat the histamines that are being released.
