Shirdi Sai Baba temple in Injambakkam, Chennai, also called Saipuram is a popular place of Sai Baba worship and one of the most visited in Tamil Nadu. The temple draws devotees from all over India. This 27-year old temple occupies 7 acres of land and is located in Injambakkam, Chennai facing the Bay of Bengal. Often called the ‘Shirdi of the South,’ this temple comprises several shrines and temples and offers an excellent view of the seashore.

Once you enter the temple, there is a shrine for Ganesha, the Lod of new beginnings, as Vallaba Ganapati with ten arms holding different weapons. Once you offer prayers to him, you can proceed to the main sanctum of the temple complex. A majestic 100-ft white marble statue of Shirdi Sai Baba graces the elegant hexagonal main sanctum. He is seated in his famous sitting posture blessings his devotees. Baba also has the name of Dwarakamayee, and the idol here is a replica of the one in Shirdi. There is also a shrine in the temple complex with a small Sai Baba statue made of bronze; however, no Poojas are allowed here.

Besides, Sai Baba there are many shrines in the temple complex for Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Vishnu, Hanuman, Dhanvantri, Rama with Sita and Lakshman, Durga, Shiva Lingam, Muruga with his consorts, Krishna, and Navagraha. The entire temple complex is surrounded by greenery adding to its beautiful and serene atmosphere. All the statues in the temple are made of black stone, except for Shirdi Sai Baba’s idol, which is made of white marble. Next to the main sanctum, there is a special room for Dhuni or the sacred fire that is kept burning 24x7.
Sai Baba has always been a guide, protector, and guardian angel for those who surrender to him with all their hearts. He is believed to fulfill their wishes and wipe out their sorrows. Other amenities available in the complex are a guest house, Gho Shala, which houses cows, a meditation hall, a free health care center, a stall selling Pooja items, a book shop selling Sai Baba related books and CDs, a canteen, etc. Apart from the usual Aarti for Sai Baba, special Poojas, marriage ceremonies, thread ceremonies and other functions are performed on request. There are also arrangements for feeding the poor and needy.
