Confidence might just be the most important thing you can have in life. Just think, without confidence, most people will never use any of the talent that they have or take advantage of the opportunity which surrounds them. Self-doubt keeps people from enjoying the relationships they want to enjoy, having the career or position that they want and affect all areas of their life. If you are ready to leave self-doubt behind and start enjoying more options in every area of your life, you might want to read this...

The Problem with Faking Self-Confidence

You probably already know that self-confidence can be faked. All you have to do is practice the exterior behaviors which are assumed to be characteristic of a confident person: good posture, a firm handshake, eye contact, a firm and full tone of voice and keep the fidgeting to a minimum. However, how many times have you tried these things and found that your ability to “keep up the appearance” kind of came and went? So then we move on to the next level of “faking confidence,” this is where you put a high value on yourself and love yourself first, without requiring other people’s approval.

Let’s be honest, how do you take this advice about loving yourself and putting a high value on yourself and not requiring other people’s approval? It sounds so good on a logical level, but at a deeper level there’s this feeling that you just can’t shake, and the insecurities still lurk beneath the surface. What can you do about this...barring spending months (and not to mention hundreds of dollars) on a couch talking to a counselor?

The Foundation of Self-Confidence

The enemies of self-confidence are insecurity and fear, both of which stem from the same place: uncertainty. Just the slightest bit of uncertainty can bring you down and destroy your self-confidence, and the more uncertainty you have on the outside of you, the harder it gets to remain certain on the inside. This is why the foundation of self-confidence is self-awareness. The more aware you are of who you really are and what drives you, the less uncertain you are and as uncertainty is driven out, fear goes with it.

Even if you are aware of all your imperfections and insecurities, self-awareness puts you in a position where you can make different choices in response to them. These choices give you the opportunity to grow and to bring all those hidden parts of yourself out where they can mature within the context of real life. Thankfully, building self-awareness is MUCH easier than faking confidence, and you don’t have to feel that you’re not being true to yourself when you’re doing it.

Best yet, it empowers you to step up and take control of your life, giving you options in all areas of your life that you never dreamed possible before.
