Instrumental music and its use as music for film

There are many different kinds of instrumental music be it classical from the old times or the modern hip-hop. Instrumental music has always been there and will always be there as well no matter what. To begin with classical players like Mozart and Joseph Haydn come at the top of the list of instrumentalists. Next that comes to mind is the Jazz category that fused the funky rhythms with the rock of the times. Miles Davis and John Coltrane are among the best names that can’t be left unmentioned. Apart from the classical and the jazz there is the rock that also formed a part of instrumental music.

The next category of instrumental music is rock which can be further categorized into 2 groups on the basis of the phase they belonged to. In the former category falls the music of the 60s and 70s and under this category come the Ventures, The Allman Brothers band, Booker T and MG. Under the latter category comes the music of the 80s when the so called “Big Hair” bands were on the reign. Steve Vai, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jason Becker were among the notables of this period. Instrumental music really reached a different level at the hands of these great musicians.

Instrumental music also acts as background music for film in order to highlight different situations. Apart from things like theme, story, concept, acting and so on music for film is also an integral part of any movie. It not only sets the mood of the movie but also helps the audience to come more touch with the plot of the movie. That’s the main reason behind the fact that the director puts in so much effort for finding the right sort of music for film that suits the sequence of actions towards which his movie is aimed at.

Take for example in a thriller movie, the music for film gives an idea to the audience that something is going to happen like the killer is going do some kind of action. Similarly in case of a romantic movie the audience is made to feel the same kind of emotions, tensions, actions and such other feelings that the characters go through. Hence the music for film must be in perfect co-ordination with the sequence of actions taking place in the movie in order to keep the audience in a constant state of attachment with the characters in the movie.
