There are many people who use terms like Interior design and interior decoration, interchangeably. But they are not same. However, they do share some similarities. They both work their best to create beautiful homes. But, when taken a closer look, one can enlist number of differences in these two professions. Once the difference is properly understood, no one will get confused. There are people who are seeking the right career. Having a proper idea will definitely help them to select the right one for them.
How can they be distinguished from each other?
You can't call yourself an interior designer, unless you are certified. So, it is the basic requirement to undergo training and gain professional experience, to be a professional in true sense. Those who have completed advance degree are preferred by firms and considered most eligible for employment. No such certificate is required for a person to work as an interior decorator. Natural abilities of a person play a huge part in decorating.
Interior designers have to focus on overall structure. Whereas decorators mainly focus on interior space. Making an aesthetic improvement is the basic work of interior decorators. They do not make any change in the basic structure. Their job functions and duties involve-Choosing artwork and fabrics, selecting right colour for the room, arranging furniture in such a fashion that it increases space of the room, making appropriate lighting etc. In a nutshell, it means their work is confined to particular space only. Powers of interior designer are more as compared to the interior decorator. If needed, he may change the architecture too. They spend quite a huge amount of time on learning the architecture and structure of the building. Their duties are less strenuous.
Many-a-times, you may come across a professional interior designer, who has been specialised in a particular area. An interior decorator does contribute a bit in almost every place.
Having graduated in the field of interior designing makes candidates more knowledgable about ecologically sustainable materials to be used. Today, we are facing the threat of global warming. Hence, eco-friendly buildings are in demand.
The functions and duties of an interior designer involve function of decorating also. The scope of former is certainly greater than the later. The students having practical knowledge and experience are paid very well in this industry.
Choosing the right career path:
In the beginning, one might be confused regarding what to choose as a career option. In order to make up one's mind, one may talk to the professionals. There are many websites on the net, that display information through articles and blogs. They are informative. One may come across them while surfing the net. Also talking to people who have ample experience in the business is also the best way to get the glimpse of the business. Most important of all, listen to your heart. It will never misguide you. Every profession needs a commitment and this one is not an exception to the rule.
