Invest In Your Life
Written by Tatjana Eggink
While all this may sound very academic, even a bit like ethereal “mumbo jumbo,” and while it may seem a bit daunting to address all the six dimensions in our lives, how much are each and every one of you willing to invest in this, your, life? Are you content settling for a healthy body, but an unwell, cluttered, depressed mind? Or are you willing to accept a slothful, unhealthy body, if you are soaring intellectually? Or are you satisfied with one out of six, foregoing healthy relationships, career satisfaction, a dearth of nurturing spirituality and learning, emotional contentment, if you are fitter than all your competitors and are on the podium on any given weekend in your recreational sport?
It is your choice: Your life can be as narrow and shallow as you want, or you as wide and deep as you decide. That’s not a judgement on your choice, but a clarification of the choice that you have to make. And you have to make it - no else can do it for you, and remember not to make a choice is to make a choice. It is not a matter of traveling far and wide, searching here and there to find anything, to find yourself; after all, you are right here and that which is inside needs unearthing. The examination of wellness starts within ourselves. Only we are accountable to ourselves for the choices we make to achieve that personal equilibrium.
It has been my limited experience that if one of these dimensions is neglected or out of kilter for a long time that that part of us wilts and dies, and I think life is too short to feel deadened while alive, don’t you? Take a look at your whole-person: Are you well? Or could you get better? In truth, we probably all could get and be better...and that, as all good things, doesn’t come to those who wait, but to those who act.
