Happiness, which, once it comes, is not followed by misery again, is called real happiness.
The happiness obtained from materialism is very temporary. Also, when things go above normal, material happiness feels like misery. Eg. eating mangoes makes you happy. But if your friend insists you eat 200 mangoes in one go, would you get happiness? No, you’d feel miserable!

We all have enjoyed a lot of material happiness in countless of our past lives. We got temporary satisfaction, but didn’t find contentment out of material happiness, and therefore become unhappy once again. God has considered contented inner state as the real happiness. Worldly desires arise because of ignorance of the Self. One who attains Self-Realization, realizes the real happiness!!

However, until you attain Self-Realization, here’s how you can be happy in every worldly situation:
It is very important that in each and every situation, we apply the right understanding and right knowledge all the time. Then, any person or situation will not be able to disturb you.
1.Decide I don’t want to hurt anybody through my thoughts, speech or actions.

2.Try giving happiness to others. When you give happiness, then you will receive happiness and if you give unhappiness to others, you will receive unhappiness in reaction.

3.And if someone becomes unhappy because of us, due to our bad or negative thoughts, speech or action, we will do pratikraman i.e we will apologise for our mistake and we will decide, “I don’t want to give unhappiness to anybody.”

As we start giving happiness to others, slowly, slowly, in about six months to one year’s time, in reaction we will get happiness automatically.

As long as there is happiness within, no man ever troubles anyone. An unhappy person hurts or harms others. An unhappy person causes trouble for everyone while a happy person always tries to make all happy. Right understanding gives happiness whereas wrong understanding brings unhappiness. So, one must constantly watch which kind of understanding is prevailing inside me right now.

God resides in every living being in this world. So if you have the slightest inner intent to hurt any living being, you will bind bad karma for the wrong doing. And when you have the intent to give, or you actually give slightest happiness to others, you give happiness to God, for which you will bind good karma, and as a result, you will experience happiness in worldly life.
Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan says, “What does Absolute Happiness mean? The happiness that arises without any effort is one’s own happiness.”

He further suggests, “Our happiness should be innate part of us. Innate (natural) happiness arises from the religion of the Self. In the religion of the Self, one has to know the nature of the Soul. Where there is no falsely attributed happiness at all, where there is innate (natural) happiness of the Self; there liberation exists. Through Gnani, the Enlightened One, one is able to attain this eternal thing i.e. the Soul.”

The ultimate truth is that our Self is the Pure Soul, which is a source of eternal happiness (bliss).
The Soul, by its inherent nature is an abode of eternal bliss. Therefore, no one can ever take our happiness away. It is free of all pain and suffering. No matter what the external circumstance is, the Soul does not experience any kind of pain or misery. It has tremendous grandeur! Therefore, how can any misery affect it ever?
Those who want ultimate happiness or the ultimate truth, they:
1.need to attain Self-Realization, and
2.need to follow the Gnani’s directives.
These are the only two things that are required.

When can you say that “I have attained the Soul”?
It is when even amidst mental, physical and externally induced suffering, you experience the blessed state of the Self (Samadhi). That is the sign of Self Realization!!! If someone swears at you, or picks your pocket or wakes you up at two o’clock in the morning, your contented state of happiness does not go away. Without this state, all talks that one does are like castles in the air.

When the Soul is attained, you remain untouched in the worldly life. You find pleasure upon seeing something nice, but you do not get stuck there; whereas the world gets stuck. Getting stuck invites pain! One must know, there is nothing in this world that can give true happiness; it’s all temporary.

New karmas are created when we get stuck and react with craving or aversion in situations of happiness and misery; whereas karmas come to an end when we remain normal or equanimous in situations of happiness and misery. Equanimity does not mean tolerance! Where there is no attachment for the good and no abhorrence for the bad, it is called the state of equanimity. The one without any duality is equanimity.

The scriptures give a vivid explanation of the Soul! Yet, just listening about sugar, would you know what sweetness means? The Living Gnani makes you taste it!!! He graces you with Self-Realization!!! Just like tea, when taken after eating sweets, makes tea taste tasteless; similarly, when you’ve tasted the happiness of the Self, it makes worldly happiness bland. One cannot break free from the worldly life until one finds worldly happiness bland. And only Gnani can make that happen for us…
So reach out for Gnani, achieve the ultimate truth of your Self NOW, and always be Happy..

Author's Bio:

Ambalal M. Patel was a civil contractor by profession. In June 1958, spontaneous Self-Realization occurred within Ambalal M. Patel. From this point on, Ambalal became a Gnani Purush, and the Lord that manifest within him became known as Dada Bhagwan. A Gnani Purush is One who has realized the Self and is able help others do the same. Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan used to go from town to town and country-to-country to give satsang (spiritual discourse) and impart the knowledge of the Self, as well as knowledge of harmonious worldly interactions to everyone who came to meet him. This spiritual science, known as Akram Vignan, is the step-less path to Self-realization
