What Precaution Should Be Taken Before Taking Asacol Medicine?

Asacol is prescribed as a treatment for ulcerative colitis, proctosigmoiditis, and proctitis. Doctors may also prescribe Asacol in an effort to stop the recurrence of ulcerative colitis. Patients who have kidney disease, liver disease, pyloric stenosis, congestive heart failure, or certain allergies should consult their doctors before taking Asacol. Asacol should be taken whole, and not broken, crushed, or chewed, so that its time release formula can take effect properly. Notify your doctor if your stool includes undissolved Asacol tablets. Patients with allergies to aspirin, mesalamine, or other salicylates should avoid Asacol.
Asacol medication is used to treat ulcerative colitis, a type of bowel disease. It does not cure ulcerative colitis, but it may decrease symptoms such as stomach pain, diarrhea, and rectal bleeding caused by irritation/swelling in the colon/rectum. Mesalamine is an aminosalicylate anti-inflammatory drug. It is believed to work by keeping your body from making certain natural chemicals that may cause pain and swelling.
Precaution before taking Asacol
1) Do not use this medicine if you allergic to it or to its ingredient.
2) You should inform your doctor if you are suffering from kidney or liver disease, a stomach condition called pyloric stenosis, a heart condition such as congestive heart failure, or a history of allergy to sulfasalazine.
3) Do not crush, break, or chew a Asacol tablet. Swallow the tablet whole
4) Pregnant and breastfeeding mother should not use this medicine without doctor recommendation as use of this medicine by them may harm the health of unbo
baby or nursed child.
5) You should inform your doctor if you are taking any prescription, non prescription and herbal medicine to avoid any drug interaction.
What if you miss your doser
If you miss your dose due to any reason then in that case you should take your missed dose as soon as you remember. But if it is the time for next dose then avoid your missed dose and continue with your dose schedule.
Side effect of Asacol mediciner
Every medicine has its own side effect. Asacol medicine also has some side effect like abdominal pain, diarrhoea and vomiting, nauseaexcess gas in the stomach and intestines (flatulence, headache, dizziness, allergic skin rashes, worsening of colitis symptoms, pain in the muscles or joints, inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), inflammation of the liver (hepatitis), kidney problems and decreases in the normal numbers of blood cells in the blood.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Oral mesalamine formulations are associated with several drug interactions. Combining mesalamine with drugs that affect kidney function, for example, nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or ibuprofen may increase the likelihood of reduced function of the kidneys. Concurrent use of mesalamine and 6-mercaptopurine or azathioprine (Imuran) may increase the likelihood of disorders of the blood cells, particularly reduced numbers of cells. Mesalamine may increase the blood thinning effect of warfarin (Warfarin).
