If it has been a long time since you broke up, and you now perceive the opportunity to get back with your ex girlfriend, you may well be full of doubts. Is it the right thing to do? Can it possibly work and how? What are the pitfalls? All these questions, and others, might be circling your mind. So, here are a few suggestions that may help you.

Nothing Wrong

To begin with, you must know that there is nothing intrinsically wrong with getting back with your ex girlfriend, no matter how long it has been. In fact, if you have been away from each other for long, it might work in your favor. Time has probably healed away all the bitterness and anger, and you have the opportunity to develop respect, trust and love anew. If you have been compatible once before, there is no reason why you can't have a fruitful relationship, if both of you are prepared to make a few adjustments.

Make The Adjustments

Because it has been so long since you broke up, chances are that you both may have forgotten the significance of the problems you experienced and the feelings that caused the break-up. Continuing to ignore those issues is not going to help you get your girlfriend back, as you may just begin fighting on the same things. So, focus on the problems you had had before, and discuss them amicably, before you make a commitment. Both of you will have to be prepared to make some adjustments.

Don't Bring up the Past

Bringing up the past during an argument or quarrel is the worst thing you could do at a time when both of you are trying to bring a fresh mindset to this relationship. It has the potential of destroying your belief in this relationship and all the respect you have re-discovered for each other. resist the impulse, no matter how tempted you are. If you want to make a point, do so when you are in a calm frame of mind. I know it sounds difficult to keep a cool head in a quarrel, but it is a question of how much you treasure this relationship.

Make it Special

Just because you two know each other well and have been in a relationship before, don't take her for granted all too soon. Make your dates special and significant, like you would with someone new. The commencement of your second innings will be a lot more fun and successful, if you treat this as your honeymoon period all over again. Also, rather than going to the same places and doing the same things as you did before, try to do something new and different. This is the perfect opportunity to create new memories.

Prepared for a Commitment?

If you were the one who broke up last time, think carefully before you set out to get your girlfriend back. Be sure than you are prepared to make a long-term commitment to this relationship. If the first break-up was hard for her, the second time could be a lot worse. Alternatively, if she broke up with you, be sure to find out what her attitude to this fresh commitment is.

If you both make the right effort, there is an excellent chance that you will be able to get back with your ex girlfriend. Relationships don't always work out perfectly, and the second time round is generally a lot more fruitful than the first attempt. Good luck!

The idea of making yourself more desirable by making yourself less available doesn't make a lot of sense when you think about it. After all, Juliet would have plunged a premature dagger into the heart of her romance with Romeo if she hid in her room rather than go out on her balcony. The end of Sleepless in Seattle shifts from "awww" to "aw, no" if one of the two main characters skips the trip to the Empire State Building. As these examples from fiction show, making yourself
