Do you know how does one get the fruit of karma (effect) in the next life? Its the seed that gives the fruit of karma.
For instance, the victim himself has accumulated the cause karmas of receiving insults from his past life, by sowing the respective seeds of karma. Suppose we sowed the seeds of insult. But for the maturation of the fruit of karma, all the evidences have to be met. Our causes result as an effect and manifest into a physical form of an insult only when all the circumstances come together. Nature does this job of getting the circumstances together.

Nature just brings together the circumstances to bring about the effect.The seeds cannot come into fruition just like that, isn’t it? All the circumstantial evidences such as air, light, water, soil, time to mature, etc. have to be met; only then the tree can grow and one can have its fruit. Until all the evidences are met, how can the fruit be achieved? Nature is responsible for getting all the scientific circumstantial evidences together so that the result is attained.

Human beings bind karmas (causes) because of ignorance. Karma is not Nature’s revenge! However, when the effect comes, they feel like it is Nature’s revenge. Even worse, they blame the instrument that delivers the result. For instance, if someone insults us, we blame the person who insults. But that person is only an instrument (a nimit), isn’t it? And therefore, as far as we are concerned, he is not at fault at all! We should understand, “This insult is the result of my own karmas.” Doing so, we will not create new karmas i.e. new causes, and hence become free.

This is how it should ideally be! Yet, inspite of understanding this theory of karma, when someone insults us, we end up reacting. Why do we react – let’s take this up in a while. Prior to that, let us first understand what to do when we react.

What to do when we happen to react?
The moment we realize we made this mistake of reacting,
we shall immediately apologize for this mistake before God,
we shall also repent and seek forgiveness from God for the mistake and
finally, we shall vow before God to not repeat this mistake and ask Him to grant us strength for the same.

Inspite of vowing, it may happen that you end up doing the mistake again. No issues, you continue to repeat the same process. This 3-step process of apology, repentance and vowing is called Pratikraman. It is a very scientific and effective process to wash off the causes.

Now, coming to the question of why do we react....
All through the day, whether at home or outside, we keep saying, and we also keep hearing people say, “I do not want to do this, yet it ends up happening! I intend to do this, yet I am not able to! I have a strong intention, I have a very strong and firm resolve to do this, and I make an effort to do it too, yet I am not able to do it!” Why so?

Param Pujya DadaBhagwan, an enlightened being explains: Conduct is a result; it is an effect, whereas intent is a cause. It is not possible to directly bring about a change in that which is an effect. The effect can be changed only through a scientific approach. That is, if the cause changes, then the effect will change on its own! So, to change the cause, start anew in this life and change the intent.

To change the intent (cause), Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan asks us to nurture the Nine Kalams.
He says, “Just say this much, just this much. This is a medicine that calls for nurturing the intention. Therefore, keep reading what we are giving you. All kinds of obstacles (created by past karma) will break through them.” The Nine Kalams are as follows. So, just read them everyday, whole-heartedly:

1.Dearest Dada Bhagwan! Give me infinite inner strength not to hurt or cause someone to hurt nor appreciate anyone hurting the ego of any living being even to the slightest extent. So that I do not hurt the ego of any living being to the slightest extent, please give me infinite strength to conduct my speech, thoughts, and actions in a manner that is accepted by all.

2.Dearest Dada Bhagwan! Give me infinite inner strength not to hurt or cause someone to hurt nor appreciate anyone hurting even to the slightest extent, the foundation of any religion. So that I do not hurt the foundation of any religion to the slightest extent, please give me infinite strength to conduct my speech, thoughts, and actions in a manner that is accepted by all.

3.Dearest Dada Bhagwan! Give me infinite inner strength to not criticize, offend, or insult any living monk, nun, preacher, or religious head.

4.Dearest Dada Bhagwan! Give me infinite inner strength to not dislike or hate any living being to the slightest extent, nor cause someone to or appreciate anyone disliking or hating any living being.

5.Dearest Dada Bhagwan! Give me infinite inner strength to not speak or cause someone to speak, nor appreciate anyone speaking any harsh or hurtful language towards any living being even to the slightest extent. If someone speaks in a harsh and hurtful language, please give me the strength to speak softly and kindly in response.

6.Dearest Dada Bhagwan! Give me infinite inner strength to not have or cause someone to have, nor appreciate anyone having any sexual desires, feelings or gestures towards any living being, be it male, female or having neutral gender. Give me the supreme strength to be free of sexual desires forever.

7.Dearest Dada Bhagwan! Give me inner strength to control my excessive temptation towards food. Give me infinite strength to consume well-balanced and wholesome food.

8.Dearest Dada Bhagwan! Give me infinite inner strength to not criticize, offend or insult any being, nor cause anyone to or appreciate anyone criticizing, offending or insulting any being, in their presence or absence, be they be living or dead.

9.Dearest Dada Bhagwan! Give me infinite inner strength to become an instrument for the salvation of the world.

Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan says, “To attain any sort of spiritual power, all that needs to be done is to keep asking for the energies from the God within. That will definitely bear result.” It ultimately bears result to a point where no living being is hurt to the slightest extent by us! By nurturing these intentions so many faults get washed off! Our new causes within change entirely, and tremendous inner peace prevails! One stops seeing faults in others, and that becomes the primary cause for bringing about eternal peace!
