Is Laser Hair Removal a Safe Procedure?
Written by Patricia Jones
Laser hair removal has become a very popular cosmetic procedure in the United States. It utilizes powerful light beams that selectively penetrate the hair follicles and destroy the hair within those follicles. Though this treatment was earlier considered effective only for dark hair on light colored skin, now with the advancement of technology it is effective for darker skin as well. Laser hair removal from the face, head, legs, underarms, eyebrows, chest, eyelashes, back, pubic area and abdomen brings improved physical appeal. It is a safe procedure, and nowadays an increasing number of men and women go for laser hair removal treatment to improve their appearance. This article attempts to discuss whether laser hair removal is a safe procedure.
How the Process Is Carried Out
Depending on the area that is treated, the time required for laser hair removal may vary from several minutes to several hours. The procedure is simple. A light beam is passed through the patient’s skin and is absorbed by the hair follicles. This light energy changes to heat and disables the hair follicles that are in active growth phase; the hair follicles are destroyed permanently so that they cannot produce hair.
Safe and Effective Hair Removal Procedure
The laser hair removal treatment is effective for virtually all types of skin. It is a gentle, non-invasive technique and can treat larger areas effectively. The procedure involves minimal discomfort and virtually no downtime. It can remove unwanted hair from almost all parts of your body and can effectively replace electrolysis, bleaching, shaving and waxing.
The procedure might require multiple sessions for more effective hair removal. The safety and success of the procedure depends on the skill and experience of the cosmetic surgeon providing the treatment. In addition, the treatment has to be provided using the appropriate advanced equipment. Usually, follow-up visits are advised to review the progress and evaluate side effects if any. Regarding side effects, sometimes patients may experience mild swelling or slight redness of the skin in the treated area.
How to Go about It
Once you decide on going ahead with the laser hair removal treatment, you have to make a list of good doctors and reliable cosmetic surgery centers by searching online or by consulting those who have already had the treatment. You can go through the testimonials of previous patients of your cosmetic surgeon to get an idea regarding the results you can expect. Laser hair removal for women and men should be ideally obtained at a reputable cosmetic surgery center with skilled cosmetic surgeons and modern equipment.
