Recently, a lot of eyes have turned towards Pittsburgh. The G20 Summit is to be held here in September and bunch of world-recognized sources have tapped Pittsburgh as a "best of" city. As a lifelong resident of this city, the only surprise is that people actually noticed what 'Burghers have known all our lives. Everyone has different views of what they want out of the city in which they decide to throw down roots and start their lives.
Kid Friendly
Young couples scoping out potential nesting grounds should cast their eyes to the Steel City. Despite (or perhaps because) of it's history as a blue collar steel and factory town, Pittsburgh has been voted "Best City for Relocating Families" by Worldwide ERC and "Best Place to Raise Children" Pennsylvania by Newsweek Magazine.
Pittsburgh is incredibly family friendly. Our symphony offers Fiddlesticks concerts for kids to introduce them to classical music. Our Carnegie Science Center inspires kids (of all ages!) to explore science in a fun way. We have the Children's Museum and kids theater groups... there is never a shortage of programs to entertain your kids.
Healthy Living in Da Burgh.
Although we have excellent restaurants such as Primanti's that will clog your arteries completely, there are a host of healthy restaurants for you to go to the next day in order to salve your conscience. There's also tons of gyms for you to exercise your guilt away. For this reason, Pittsburgh was voted one of the top twenty cities to eat and live healthy by Cooking Magazine.
Sick? Don't worry!
Pittsburgh is home to no less than 5 major healthcare providers such as UPMC and Highmark, and several of our hospitals are rated in the top 15 in the country. So if you're in Pittsburgh, you can find quality healthcare and will more than likely be able to pay for it too!
Greenery is Not Just for the Trees
Pittsburgh is working hard to erase it's HUUUUUUUGE carbon footprint. We have a lot of ecological guilt to work out after that whole steel mill thing, and we're doing a great job. We've consistently been in the top five cities for our number of "green certified buildings" and the David L Lawrence convention center is the biggest green convention center in existence. It's one of the main reasons why the G20 will be held in Pittsburgh.
The Arts in Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh was voted in the top three arts destinations in the country by American Style magazine because of the sheer number of fine arts destinations in Pittsburgh. We are in the top five for theaters per capita.
Best Place to Earn A Living
We were voted number six for that prestigious designation by Forbes Magazine and Kiplinger rated us as a safe haven in real estate. MSN Money said we were number 4 for recession proof places to retire. Overall, we've come through this recent recession remarkably unscathed. We're awesome like that.
Best City in the World?
I love this city, and even though I've lived in other cities all around the world, I can't imagine relocating to any of them. Pittsburgh is finally attracting the attention and getting the accolades that I always knew it deserved. It seams I'm not alone when I say that Pittsburgh truly is the best city in the world.
