Have you ever had the desire to do something for yourself, but didn’t because you thought you were being selfish? It could be something as small as taking a nap in the middle of the afternoon or going to the spa or going for a walk. It could be something as big as changing your career or changing where you live or changing your relationship. But the point is that sometimes we come to a point in our lives when we need to think of ourselves and take care of ourselves and do things for ourselves even though the action may offend others or change the way others see us.

We all deserve to be happy! Every time we settle for something or make compromises to placate others and keep them happy, we lose a little bit of ourselves. We put our desires and dreams on hold for “one day”. We think that it will be easier in the future when we have more time. That is what I used to think! I though I would wait until the kids were all grown and in university, then I would do what I really wanted with my life. This was not healthy for me or my kids. Subconsciously I was really telling myself that I did not deserve to live the life I really wanted because I didn’t want to upset the kids or change their lifestyle. Subconsciously I was telling them that when they grew up they should do the same for their kids! I want my kids to have the best life possible so why was I sabotaging their future happiness.

So now, I try to do more and more what is best for me. The kids are still happy and they are not deprived. They have learned that it is important to be happy, that we all deserve to be happy, even their Mom.

Sometimes though we need help to figure out exactly what we would like to do to be happy. If you are in a state of transition and need some direction, perhaps I can be of some assistance. As a career civil servant with a family, I understand what it is like to be pulled in different directions. I also have experience with following my heart and doing what is right for me. I won’t tell you what to do, but I can help you clarify what you would like to do and how to go about doing it. It is all about me and that is okay, but also it is all about you too! Are you ready for a change? Are you ready to put yourself first?
