I know no one likes being told their dis-eases are "psychological," and I'm not here to tell you that everything is in your head. I realize there's more to it than that.

However, your digestive system has a mind of its own, and it is wired to be heavily influenced by its mind. I'm not talking about the mind in your head - I'm talking about the mind in your gut.

Your gut has its own nervous system, called the Enteric Nervous System (ENS). The ENS controls much of the gut's functioning without any communications with the brain in your head. This phenomenon gives it the reputation of having a "mind of its own."

It's not just the conscious thoughts that influence your digestive functioning, but also your subconscious memories, beliefs and emotions that get stored in your belly.

Whether or not your conscious mind knows these old memories, emotions and beliefs are there, they can wreak havoc on your system - and you may have no idea why.

You know all that challenging stuff that comes up in your life that you don't have time to deal with? That stuff you shove down so you can keep your game face on and get through your day? Or those unpleasant, uncomfortable, painful, emotional situations you've found yourself in as you've gone through life - yes, ever since the beginning of your life?

Loss of a loved one, rejection as a kid in school, a painful breakup, parents' divorce, betrayal from someone you trusted. These are difficult situations for anyone.

All of these situations lead us to stuff our emotions. When we can't safely express our emotions, we take in and store the whole pattern - the memory of the situation, the beliefs we form around it and the host of emotions that arise from it.

Our natural tendency is to shove them down and hold them in. Where do they go? Often somewhere in our soft vulnerable underbellies. They stay there indefinitely - influencing our beliefs, behaviors and our health - until we set them free. And when we set them free, they set us free. It's that simple.

But if our brains are not in charge of these old memories, how do we access them to set them free? Well, you may have heard that we're all energy. Einstein said it. Madame Curie said it. Many of the great scientists have said it. And I'm saying it. It's true. We are all energy.

As energetic beings, all of these frozen memories are stored as energies. These energies remain intertwined in our own energetic beings until we allow them to receive what they need in order to release or transform or re-integrate into our own deep hearts.

When energies get "unblocked," the unblocking allows us to get back in the "flow" of life. When we're back in the flow, energy flows, blood flows, neurological transmissions flow, lymph flows, digestion flows - releasing the stagnation can restore your health and general well-being.

Here's the bottom line - Stress affects the functioning of your digestive system. Old memories and stuffed emotions influence stress reactions in your body. These old memories and stuffed emotions are stored as energies, often in your soft vulnerable underbelly. In order to restore your health and well-being, you need to release the stuck energies from your gut.

Clear as mud? Or does this all make sense to you?
