JESUS MEETS MUHAMMAD (PART THREE)

CONVERSATIONS , A “FASCINATING” DISCUSSION BETWEEN JESUS AND MUHAMMAD

Article Summary:
A "chance" meeting and consequent conversation and debate between these founders of great religions (and great and fascinating figures in history) . . . and the title of a new manuscript that is "writing itself", my "secret task, a labour of love" in the year 2011

CHAPTER THREE: THE TEACHINGS

Muhammad: So are you the Messiah, Jesus?

Jesus: So many religions throughout the ages have predicted the coming of a Messiah to save the people, nations and even planet earth itself. In Deuteronomy in the Old Testament it was predicted that a Messiah would come and save Israel and free it, the people from the Roman occupiers. I didn’t do that and never claimed that I would deliver, so the Jewish people didn’t believe in me and my simple message. And look at how much suffering and persecution they have been through the centuries. But we must not judge, nor blame, but love.

To get back to your point. I just did what I felt to be God’s work on earth, teaching about the Kingdom of God and trying to live simply in union with God. And that was my simple mission on earth.

But then my followers wanted to fulfill expectations through linking me to the prophecies about the coming of a grand Messiah

and this confuses my purpose for so many. No wonder people are so confused!

M: I had a similar calling, Jesus… as you no doubt know. The followers of Islam after me, millions and millions of them too said I was the Messiah. They often quote John 14:16, about my coming… and I was a mere mortal man… and a wise prophet, like you. Jesus.

J: Really, that’s quite crazy, Muhammad; because in those verses I was talking about the Holy Spirit, or Counsellor, or Helper, as some later writers called it. (The ancient Greeks translated the original Aramaic word that I used as ‘Paraclete’). Funny, but you can use scripture and texts to suit any belief or argument you want… and the people do.

Yes, it’s sad that religion can be used to divide peoples, cultures and nations and your and my words can be taken out of context and misappropriated (big word that, eh – I tried to bring it in somewhere) to suit people’s own beliefs, motives and agendas. I wonder what is the Aramaic word for mis-appropriated?

*

Jesus: I would never have envisaged in my wildest dreams that there would be so much debate and controvery regarding my words, when the message was so simple and clear. And even more so, what is known as the miracle and mystery of the Resurrection!

Now that’s another “biggie”. Let’s rather go back to the Holy Spirit we touched on yesterday.

M: Great. I look forward to that and thought a lot about what you said yesterday.

J. Thanks for sharing your wisdom with me too, Muhammad. You are a great man and servant doing the Lord’s work.

And don’t forget the “Prophet thing”!

I: Well I suppose everyone is a “messenger” of Allah in some way, as Allah works through people on earth, who bring honour and glory to Him.

So what was your mission on earth?

To live simply in the Kingdom of God, reach people and let them know that the way they were living is wrong? Wrong thoughts, behaviours, morals, sin and so on. Because from wrong thoughts everything else originates.

M: Yes, you’re quite a student of the human mind there, Jesus. Some psychiatrist, aren’t you. It’s all quite simple, . I suppose your message of 600 years, or even over 2000 years ago is more relevant than ever these days!

J: No, it’s OUR message, Muhammad… but my purpose was unique. As it says in the Bible:

“I came that you may have life and have it to the full.”

*

M: Do you predict “End times”?

J So many people get “hung up” on this strange subject… and the words mean so many different things to them… and so causes great confusion and stress. But there are no real answers. By “End Times” do you mean the end of the planet, the end of life itself! In short, ‘No’, just eternal change, cycles of growth, birth, death and rebirth.

As I said…

“Don’t fret about tomorrow, as tomorrow will bring about enough worries of it’s own.”

I: An additional question: Will there be another “miracle virgin birth, like yours.

J: Only the Lord can do and say that and He does not speak in an audible voice… only very very, very occasionally to people, ordinary human beings, who fully trust and submit, totally surrender their lives to Him. And then they hear the gentle whisper of My voice… in the stillness, the silence.

I You mean through meditation and prayer. You’re just testing me, Muhammad. You know that and you did that in your intimate relationship and special moments with Allah.

*

BUT WHY DID YOU DIE?

I: Was it because of or FOR the sins of the world, which is the basis of the Christian religion?

J: There IS a difference between the words in your question, Think about them… carefully, Muhammad.

But I’ll answer that “heavy” one another time.

*

NOTE:

John 14:16, 17

“And I will pray to the Father, And He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever – the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive; because it neither sees Him , nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” (New King James Version)

“I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counsellor, to be with you for ever – the Spirit of Truth. The world cannot accept him; because it neither sees him, nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”

(New International Version NIV)

The Holy Spirit is a powerful “person” working for and with us… through belief. “And I will ask the father, and he will give you another Counselor, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world at large cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognise him. But you do, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.”

(New Living Bible 1996)

But really it make no difference what or we are born (in spite of my good friends Matthew’s emphasis on me being born into a Jewish family); but matters is what we become – finding a cause, a purpose a mission along the journey of life is everything.

Total surrender to the Lord. By His Grace (Infinite) will you attain inner peace.

As the Qur’aan says:

“Take one step towards Allah and Allah takes three steps towards you.”

And the Bible says much the same thing: “The Lord will never leave you, nor forsake you” and “I am with you… always.”

* *

J: So the Islamic and Christian concepts of the Creator of the Universe, the Heavenly Father are the same Infinite Spirit?

M: Yes, but the people don’t realise it. Different cultures have different traditions and beliefs…like spokes going to the hub at the centre of the wheel. They are different paths to our individual consciousnesses, the top of the mountain… or rather the same one God, Allah in the heavens.

YOU CHOOSE the path you want to God!

J: But Islam says Islam is the only way to God, or as you call Allah.

M: And Christians quote YOUR words saying: “No one comes to the Father, except through me.”

J: That’s a great topic for tomorrow, brother.”

Happy Christmas to you and Allah Akbar.

Jesus: God, the Father dwells within you too… go well, Muhammad

What we believe is not nearly as important as how we relate, interact with each other... and how we live. Only when we can say, 'I am first and foremost a human being, and second a Jew, Muslim, Shi'ite, a Sunni, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu ,or a Sikh...' will we progress and break down barriers between peoples, nations and cultures, both east and west. Let not our beliefs , but our shared humanity (ALL of us) define who we really are. "

Together, one mind, one heart, one life at a time, let's plant the seeds, the hope of a better and brighter future.

These writings ("whether crazy or perhaps inspired" or crazy") may be freely published

From the depth of the valleys, in the deserts of despair, there is hope… as there is the unquenchable oasis, the immense breadth and depth of the human spirit… always."
