Johannesburg- Enjoy The Famous Numerous Attractions

This is an article which talks about how 4 friends headed to Johannesburg, unplanned and uncalled, to meet each other after a decade of being busy with their corporate jobs, family, kids and every other thing which can kill your freedom and well being. So if you are here to get a detailed itinerary and where to stay and things to do, this would not be necessarily be a good guide for you. This piece only talks about how 4 friends, threw their frustrations out of the window for a memorable trip to Jo’Burg.

Why Jo’Burg? This is the question we have been asked time and again. After all, a place which has been stereotyped as being crime-infested and being more of a gateway to other famed tourist destinations like the wildlife doyens of Kenya, can never be a place for friends to reunite. Well, it turns out that we sat in front of our computers (courtesy, Skype) and held out globes as we made it a point to meet outside India, inspired by the many road-movies we had seen while growing up.

2 fingers out of 4 pointed at Jo’Burg and it was decided in a moment’s flash – Johannesburg it was. The next steps were in the following order rn1) Get a cheap ticket on one of the many flights to johannesburg availablern2) Wait at the airport till everyone reachesrn3) Check in to any random hotel available at first sight.

Yes, we did not have an itinerary. Organized people make an itinerary. Unorganized people just land at points and get hassled asking people for tips and directions. Unorganized people, thereby, have more fun than organized people because they use hit-and-trial. 4 friends coming in from India, France, Australia and England, with nobody knowing what next to do, is not exactly how you make plans, but that’s how we roll. I was the first one to arrive. The cramped flight had given me enough reasons to douse it off with a couple of drinks. The packed bar at OR Tambo International Airport is the best place to head to, when you are just out of a budget flight, which takes 9 hours to reach Jo’Burg.

Rohan and Steve came in second and third. They, like me, got into the bar first thing, and till Max came in, we were sloshed. Come to think of it, we had not even left the airport, and we were drunken horses, just let free. How we reached our hotel from the airport is a different story. Our journey to this amazing city is filled with many such experiences and stories which started the moment we step out from our flights to Johannesburg. But I would save those stories for further articles.
