Kenya Holidays - Beyond The Safari
Written by Neill Thompson
Kenya is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Africa and while Africa has an abundance of natural beauty, Kenya offers a number of unique holiday opportunities that you cannot find elsewhere. With great weather all year round and a good level of economic stability its a great option for anyone wanting to go on safari. With miles and miles of untouched natural beauty its the perfect place for a safari holiday, but Kenya has so much more to offer than that. Lets quickly look at some of the highlight of a holiday in Kenya and what you can expect and plan into your travel itinerary to go beyond just the safari.. 1. Mountain Climbing Whether you are a serious climber or just looking for a gentle mountain trail, Mount Kilimanjaro is absolutely breathtaking. As the highest mountain peak in Africa it stands tall in the vastness of the flat African planes with views as far as the eye can see. 2. Mountain Biking If hiking is not quite your thing, then put on your helmet and get on your mountain bike for a truly spectacular ride. Hell's Gate National Park is the best place to go and the route allows you to go through the ancient volcanic remains of Mount Suswa and Mount Longonot. 3. Golf While South Africa is probably more famous for having the best golf courses on the continent, Kenya boasts with 2 spectacular courses that are really inexpensive and very beautiful. The Windsor Country Club is one of the best courses with breathtaking natural beauty. 4. Hot Air Balloons There is no better place to see the wildlife from up in a hot air balloon. The weather conditions over many of the national parks makes it perfect for hot air balloons and watching the annual Wildebeest migration from up there is truly unforgettable. If you can, try and go in the late afternoon to see the sunset which will be something you will never forget. 5. Night Safari Daytime safari's are great and you can see a lot of animals in their natural habitat. The real action however happens at night. Most animals hunt at night and because of the heat the animals are pretty passive during the daytime. Night safari's are dangerous and you need to go with an experienced guide but you will get to see some real action and seeing cheetahs hunt is a truly exhilarating experience.
