Kerala wildlife that makes to the state a major tourist attraction comes full with varieties of plants and animals. With the huge attendance of wildlife sanctuaries, there come also many bird sanctuaries or parks in the state. Some of leading wildlife sanctuaries of Kerala are:
Peiryar Wildlife Sanctuaryr
Located around the Peiryar Lake in Idukki district of Kerala, Peiryar wildlife sanctuary was once hunting ground of the Maharajas of Travancore. Today it comes declared as a national park. While touring this park you may look into the herds of elephants, tigers, leopards, monkeys, nilgai, sloth bear, porcupine, the Malabar Flying Squirrel and lots of birds including the Great Indian Hornbill.
Eravikulam National Parkr
This popular park stands known for being the home of the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, boasting the highest population of Nilgiri Tahr in the world. It comes the home to the Atlas moth that is the galactic moth in the world. It is also a perfect place for trekking. This national park also has number of exotic plants. The highest peak of south India called Anaimudi comes located in this sanctuary.
Idukki Wildlife Sanctuaryr
This Sanctuary in Kerala gets located 40 km from the Thodapuzha district of Idukki. Spread over an area of 77 square km, Idukki national park, Kerala is a prime attraction for tourists coming from far and wide. This sanctuary appears out as a paradise for nature freaks. Known for its elephants, this is also a home to tiger, deer, leopard, langur etc.
Bird Sanctuary Kumarakomr
Bird Sanctuary in Kumarakom is the winter home to a host of bright plumed visitors from cold regions such as Siberia. A birdwatcher's paradise, this sanctuary appears out on the banks of the Vembanad Lake, letting the tourists to take the water path to the profit-making bird watching. Birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles are the inhabitants of this sanctuary. Around 500 species of birds are there in the park.
Silent Valley National Parkr
This national Park is locally called house about hundreds of species of butterflies and almost 400 species of moths in Kerala. The Great Indian Hornbill, the Laughing Thrush, the Malabar squirrel, langurs, lion-tailed Macaques, elephants, tigers, leopards, wild bears and nilgais get protected under this sanctuary.
