Khadi: a Revolution

Khadi, a term that was always thought of as a white, pristine fabric has so much more to its existence. Since, today’s generation has been fed on unique fashion brands like Forever 21 and Zara, they are unaware of the importance of Khadi fabric. During independence, Khadi represented self reliance for Indian pride and promoted the idea of using cotton as a cloth. Khadi is usually woven from cotton but may also include silk or wool. The idea that the cotton we grew could be woven and spun to make garments; rather than buying exuberantly priced fashion garments, brought about a huge fashion revolution. After the Swadeshi movement, Khadi shifted to the back shelves of fashion emporiums. Fabric of Indian independence is the current fashion fabric of the country. People are drawn towards the new, but fail to relinquish the old. For a matter of fact, Khadi is available in many vibrant colors. Classy color palette of Khadi has made it a recent favorite of top designers. Khadi can be used for designing Kurtis, Palazzos, Cropped jackets and even in sarees. This sophisticated yet glamorous fabric Khadi is on the wish list of many.
