Kitten Behaviour
Written by Amuro Wesley
Like cats, kittens are also solitary animals. Except for their own kind, they do not hunt together or share what they have tracked down. Occasionally cats from neighbouring territories gather together for a pleasant feast and fellowship. But overall, they are not the most sociable with other pets and animals. For they only feel comfortable with their kind in behaviour.
My friend’s barn kittens are born and grow up together under her and her cat’s care. That cat and her little kitten children took turns to guard the place against rats and mice. Their behaviour does not match most solitary hunters of common wisdom like dogs, lions, tigers and leopards.
The female cat Felicia used to bring along her kittens for daily strolls around the area. My friend have watched her bring them back by evenings.
On one evening, she saw her cat stop and sat down near the edge of a small and lightly used road adjacent to her farm. 2 of her children were right besides her. As her cat turned to watch for any incoming traffic from the road, her kitchens started to imitate her actions. But the young one simply stood there and watched quietly.
Nevertheless Felicia gathered all her children and returned home.
Even though they are pets, their thinking and behaviour are very much like us humans. They have feelings and common sense to react and act according to circumstances.
I have another friend with the same cat and kitten family. They consist of Percy and her 2 little kittens.
Her oldest daughter Cali is a healthy and growing bigger everyday while her young one Kali is just as active and elegant.
Because Cali is older, she has always bee
Percy’s favorite daughter. They hang out together most of the time and knew each other very well.
If Percy needed something, Cali would get it for her.
Because of this, Kali became jealous. She felt isolated and her relationship with them was soon on the rocks as she threw tantrums and started rebelling against their wishes. Even my friend could not do anything about it. Eventually she ran away from home and was never found again.
To most people including my friend, kittens are not only cute but funny and entertaining as well. To me they are very much like us humans. They are living creatures with their own mindsets which they will not show until they are old and wise enough to understand the ways of the world.
