Know How to Use Different Car Lights While Driving
Written by Academy Of Driving Excellence

To pass the driving test, it is one of the important aspects that you should learn to identify the car's lighting components and how to use them. The assessors will check out whether you can use the car light properly or not. However, many drivers forget these skills once they are taken to the test. Maybe the test nerves or improper practice make them forgetful. Unfortunately, failing to handle the car lights can put you as well as other motorists in danger.
What are the lighting components a car includes?
Different lights in a car have different functions to help the driver and other motorists on the road to be aware of the moves and turns. Here is a list of lights a car has-
- Headlights:There are two types of headlights are fond- 1st one is a high beam, and 2nd is low beam. These lights let the driver see the road in the dark, as well as signaling other motorists that another vehicle is driving there. Low beam lights offer proper light distribution with lateral and forward illumination that doesn't blind other road users with excessive glare. On the other hand, high beams provide an intense and centre-weighted distribution, and there is no control while spreading the glare. According to an instructor from the apt driving lesson in Melbou e, high glare beams are only used when there is no visible car coming from the front.
- Tail lights:Tail lights are important when there are following vehicles at the rear part, you can use tail lights or red light to indicate how far you are from the vehicle behind you.
- Daytime running lights: These lights are located near the headlights and these lights are mounted low to prevent the light from refracting. These lights are generally used when there is excess fog, or normal headlights are ineffective.
- Fog lights: It is located near the headlights, which are mounted low in order to prevent the light from refracting on the fog and glare back towards the driver.
- Signal lights: These lights are also called as blinkers that are located at the front or back of the car, besides tail and headlights. Turning it on helps you to give other road users the indication that you are about to take the turn soon and can slow down accordingly.
- Brake lights:It is located to the side of your rear lights. These lights are used to signal the other road users that you will be slowing down or about to stop. They will be activated automatically only when you apply the brakes. So, there is no chance of misusing them.
- Hazards light: These lights are turned on to indicate other road users that you're experiencing a problem or you are in danger. These lights are located in the front or back of the vehicle and only be used when there is any sign of distress, and not for an illegal parking permit.
- Driving lamps: These lights are located inside the vehicle to brighten up the car for the passenger or driver to find the items in the dark. However, it is recommended not to use these lights for a longer period.
So, there are various lights used in a car, and these all have their specific functions. If these lights are not used properly, they can cause accidents. A driving school in Melbou e will teach you how to recognise different lamps and how to use them at the right time.
