Almost every person who is fascinated by diamonds is familiar about the well-known ‘Four C’s’ of it. Still there are people who might not be much aware of this terminology. Four C’s are the four basic aspects of a diamond or its features which are not interconnected but still determine its price cumulatively. The first one is the color of a diamond, most of the people believe that a diamond is colorless or the best diamond is the one without any color but it is not true. Diamonds are also found in other natural colors such as deep blue, pink, yellow which these are extremely rare and highly expensive and are known as fancy diamonds. Apart from this, diamonds are mostly available in yellowish shades. According to the GIA standard, the colorless or nearly colorless diamond falls between the category of D, E, F to H, I, J and are the most expensive diamonds. The shades of yellow falls under the category of K, L, and M to N, Y and the man-made fancy colors are graded as Z+.

The second aspect is the clarity, which is related to the inclusions of the diamonds. A flawless diamond is the most expensive piece and the internally flawless also follows it. Flawless diamond is one without any external or internal flaws and the internally flawless is the one with only few external flaws, both are rare in existence and are found only in the exclusive white gold engagement rings, earrings and necklaces as solitaires. Carat Weight is another vital aspect of a diamond to determine its price. In simple terms it tells about the weight of the diamonds and is measured in carat which is equal to point two grams and about twenty three hundred carats makes one pound. A carat is further divided into a point that is hundred points makes one carat. Though the price of a diamond largely depends upon its weight but also the quality of the diamond in together determines its actual price.

The last among the four aspects is the cut which must not be confused with the shape of the diamond. Generally diamond comes in around ten shapes namely princess cut, cushion cut, round cut pendants platinum, oval cut, pear cut, asscher cut, marquise cut, radiant cut, heart cut and emerald cut diamonds.
