Laser Hair Removal Treatment for Men and Women
Written by Patricia Jones
Laser Hair Removal – Does It Really Work?
Are you struggling with unwanted body hair? Laser hair removal is a safe, non-invasive procedure performed to remove unwanted hair from body parts such as the face, chest, underarms, back, and leg. This article will provide information about laser hair removal treatment for men and women.
It is a misconception that laser hair removal for women is more popular worldwide. Considering the outstanding results, a good percentage of the male population has also chosen this effective method to remove excess hair on their body. This not only enhances their masculine look, but boosts their self esteem as well.
Get to Know How It Works
First the region is cleaned and an anaesthetic cream is applied. Then, a beam of laser is allowed to fall on the area to be treated. Melanin – the pigment contained in hair follicles – absorbs the heat produced from the beam, which eventually results in the damage of follicles. The process can prevent the re-growth of hair up to 70 % - 80 %.
Often, the length of the procedure varies from a few minutes to an hour depending on the size of the body area being treated. To achieve good results, a single treatment session is not sufficient. Rather, you need to undergo approximately 3-5 treatments, sometimes more based on the density of hair in the area. The sessions are normally spaced out over 6 – 10 weeks. It has to be noted that the number of laser hair removal treatmentsessions required may depend on the type of your skin, colour of hair, size of area treated, and the depth of hair follicles.
Are There Any Serious Side Effects?
In most cases, the answer is “NO”. After the treatment, it is common to experience redness, swelling, and itching around the treated area. A tingling effect or slight pain can also persist for a few days. A numbness cream can be applied to get relief from this. Some of the rare side effects include:
- Blistering
- Hyper pigmentation
- Infection
- Burning sensation
- Scarring
- Scab formation or bleeding
- Changes in skin pigment
In order to avoid such potential side-effects, make sure that you undergo the treatment at a recognized cosmetic surgery center, where experienced physicians are there to provide customized laser hair removal treatment for men and women. Prior to the procedure, you should also discuss your previous medical history, because individuals with serious health issues are often discouraged from the treatment.
