Leaders: Born or Made?
Written by William Roberts
There is an on-going debate of whether leaders are born or whether they are made through trainings and experience. For those who are in the line of business, such an issue can be said as significant.
Some says that good leaders are born, not made. It is believed that a leader rises to the occasion, even if without experience or background on how to lead the group or organization.
However, there is also another statement that says good leaders are made. Trainings and actual experience will help an individual to transform into a very effective leader. Time, hard work and determination are the factors that contribute in making good leaders. There is a saying that “If there is something you want to achieve, you should work for it.
Having heard both sides, which do you think is the winner of this particular debate? Well, your guess is as good as mine. It is proven now that good leaders learn their skills through the test of time. If you do a research on all the great men in history, you will notice that none of them started strong in their career. It is also true in the present times. Let us take for example Andreas Roell, CEO and President of Geary Group, one of the top Internet marketing agencies.
Andreas Roell is what you call a talented man. He was already a professional soccer player when the University of Nevada, Las Vegas recruited him to play for the UNLV Rebels. While there, he earned his bachelor’s degree in International Business. After graduating, he went on to take his Master’s in Business Administration at the University of San Diego, where he graduated cum laude.
Before even attaining success, he underwent a lot of challenges that taught him the necessary lessons in how to effectively run an Internet Marketing business. And so an even bigger challenge began. He co-founded Geary Group in 2000, and since then, he was able to take the company into new heights and it then became a successful enterprise with more than 50 employees specializing in website development, online media planning and buying, search engine marketing, data analytics, and email marketing. The company is based in San Diego, Califo
ia and has offices in New York City and Las Vegas, Nevada
But before he was associated with Geary Interactive, Roell was also a co-founder and chief web strategist for Prime Player, the Internet’s first portal for sports participation. It was him who developed the company's website strategies as well as the person responsible for the revenue stream, usability configuration, web initiatives and strategic partnerships with companies like ESPN and HealthSouth. Aside from the ones mentioned, Roell is affiliated in a lot more associations that also sing praises of what a good leader he is.
To be a leader means that you have to be able to provide the best solution in the most unlikely times. That is a skill that can be acquired by birth, however, we don’t really know when it will come out. But a trained leader can also do this, and he is more able to use it whenever he wants it or whenever needed.
