Leadership Lessons for Tiny Empires
Written by Tracey Osbo e
Whether you have a large, full time staff or one full time employee and then a number of contractors or other types of team members, you still do a lot of managing, delegating, and serving as a leader.
Even if you’re a true solopreneur, you need leadership skills to keep yourself motivated and your business moving in the right direction so that one day, you can lead an empire.
So here are a few lessons from top leaders that apply to even the smallest business empires…
“To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart.” —Eleanor Roosevelt
You get a lot farther managing a team when you consider their point of view, nurture their growth, and care about their future. You set the tone as the leader, so they will follow suit.
“Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.” —Vince Lombardi
This is exactly why I set really high goals for my business. Even if I fall short of achieving an over-reaching goal, I will still have outpaced a moderate goal that I could have achieved without stretching myself.
“If your actions create a legacy that inspires others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, then, you are an excellent leader.” —Dolly Parton
Give your contractors a stake in the game and they will fly higher than if you just tell them what to do. Instead of directing your team, enable them to become leaders in their own right.
“I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.” —Stephen Covey
As the boss, the buck stops with you. The sooner you forget about the blame game and start looking for solutions in everything you do, the faster you’ll succeed.
“A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don’t necessarily want to go, but ought to be.” —Rosalynn Carter
As the captain of your ship, you can’t get bogged down in the operations of your work. It’s your job to shape the future of your work and let your team handle the rest.
If you need to free up your time so that you can focus on leadership, set up a time to talk and I’ll show you how easy it is to do what you love.
