Contraceptive methods provide an important service to women who wish to avoid getting pregnant. Hormonal contraceptive methods are the most commonly used and have also been proven to be the extremely effective methods. The three popular hormonal contraceptive methods are oral contraceptive pills, contraceptive patches and contraceptive rings. These contraceptive methods basically consist of artificial female hormones that help in the prevention of pregnancy in women. Of the three methods, oral contraceptive methods are the most popular of all. The oral contraceptive methods are divided into the categories of combination pills and mini pills. Other than the combination pills, or “the pill”, the other popular type of oral contraceptive pill is mini pills. These pills are often misunderstood as the lighter dosages of combination pills, which is not true. The mini pills consist of only one artificial female hormone of progestogen. As a result, they are often referred to as ‘progestogen only pill’. These pills work in two different ways to protect women from getting pregnant. The major advantage of these pills is that they can be taken by women who are allergic to oestrogen. What is Micronor? The Micronor mini pill is a popular and commonly used contraceptive by women around the world. This pill consists of norethisterone, a synthetic progestogen, as its active ingredient. You are required to take this pill for all 28 days of your menstrual cycle, without a 7 day break in between. This pill can be taken by women who are allergic to oestrogen, are breastfeeding and are above the age of 35 years. It one of the pills which, like the combination pill, prevents ovulation as well. This pill also helps in reducing painful periods that you may experience. What is Noriday? The Noriday mini pill is also a popular progestogen only pill, which has helped thousands of women by preventing them from getting pregnant. This mini pill consists of norethisterone, synthetic progestogen, as its active ingredient. You are required to take one Noriday mini pill on a daily basis and at the same time for all 28 days of your menstrual cycle. This pill is most effective if it is taken on the very first day of your period. But if you forget to take the pill on the very first day of your period, then it is advisable that you use extra protection for the next 7 days. What is Cerazette? The Cerazette mini pill is the most commonly and popularly used progestogen only pill and is one of the pills that prevents ovulation from occurring as well. It protects women from getting pregnant by thickening the cervical mucus so as to prevent a sperm from entering and fertilizing an egg. It also alters the womb lining so that an egg, if produced and fertilized, is unable to attach itself to the womb and grow further. This pill consists of desogestrel, a synthetic progestogen, as its active ingredient. Cerazette have been proven to be almost 99% effective in protecting women against pregnancy.
