WHAT DOES LIPOTROPIC MEAN?
Lipotropic means fat-loving. Basically they are substances which can liquefy or homogenize fats. (Americans eat 100 lbs. of saturated fats per person per year) - 42% of our caloric intake in fat.
WHAT ARE THE MAIN FUNCTIONS OF LIPOTROPICS?
I. They increase the production of lecithin by the liver. n(a) This helps to solubilize cholesterol, thus lessening cholesterol deposits in blood vessels and decreasing the chances of gall stone formation. (Gallstones are made of cholesterol.)
II. They prevent the accumulation of fats in the liver. n(a) Fatty liver can cause sluggish liver function.
III.They detoxify amines (by products of protein metabolism). n(a) Important for people on high protein diet.
IV. They increase resistance to disease. n(a) They bolster the thymus gland to carry out its anti-disease function by:ni. stimulating the production of antibodiesnii. stimulating the growth of phagocytes, which surround and gobble up invading viruses and microbes.niii. by recognizing and destroying foreign and abnormal tissue.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS OF THE INDIVIDUAL LIPOTROPICS?
CHOLINE
1. Metabolizes fats
2. Deficiency can lead to cirrhosis and fatty degeneration of liver and hardening of the arteries (arteriosclerosis, artherosclerosis)
3. It is being used today for ailments such as: gall bladder, trouble, diabetes, Muscular Dystrophy, glaucoma, arteriosclerosis, senility and memory problems (forgetfulness)
4. It detoxifies amines which are by products of protein metabolism.

INOSITOL
1. Deficiency can lead to hair loss.
2. It works with vitami
E to facilitate as actions in the treatment of Muscular Dystrophy.
3. It is used in nerve and muscle disorders such as Multiple Sclerosis and Cerebral Palsy.
4. Caffeine can cause depletion of inositol.
METHIONINE
1. It works with choline to detoxify amines which are the by products of protein metabolism.
2. It acts as a catalyst for choline and inositol, opening up their function.
3. Along with choline it aids in reducing liver fat and protects the kidneys.
HOW ARE LIPOTROPICS SUPPLIED?
They come in tablet form. Usually 3 tablets equal 1000 mg., or 1 gram of each Lipotropic agent. Most nutritionists and physicians prescribe 1 - 2 grams daily in three divided doses. (Otherwise 1 - 2 tablets take
3 times daily with food.)
