LISTEN

How beautiful is the light
-- beyond any words
or imaginings,
more than high thought.

It is hotter stuff
than constellations,
colder than
the swift, ice-comet
that crosses heaven
by itself.

There is bold symphony,
twinkling in a child's eye.

I cannot hold it, show itrnunconcealed ---say why we even know
it elevates the mind,
tells us that
we are a different sort of breed
-- not products of a culture,
not this pose we manifest.

My light and yours
go bouncing thru time
-- and sometimes
lose their brilliance
to ideas
that we get hardened on.

I cannot speak with fullness
what I want to say.
Yet, wordlessly, we know,
we know this light
has not begun with us,
will not extinguish
with the drying of our bones.

There comes
a dazzling revelation
thru pinpoints in the universe
that settles shyly on the soul
and, if we listen
with the subtle heart,
we might be blessed to hear
the tender voice
that strikes a spark
from silence
