Make This Economy Work For You
Written by Meridith Elliott Powell
Does it feel like the economy is just one more thing working against you, just one more thing keeping you from being successful?
The fact is, the economy has shifted, it is different, and times have changed. This is a trust and value economy. It has changed so much so that you have to ask yourself: How have you shifted, how are you different and what have you changed? If you are still doing things like you did them three years ago, then you are not only not moving forward, you are actually losing ground. So ask yourself: What do you need to do to make this economy actually start working for you?
You need a new game plan -- one that is rooted in personal responsibility and your ability to build connections. If you want to move from surviving in this economy to thriving in this economy, there are a number of actions you can take. You can make more sales calls, market your business more, create more efficiencies, etc. But at the end of the day, the two strategies that are going to have the biggest impact on moving you and your organization forward are personal responsibility and connections.
These are tough times. Change happens at a rapid pace. Competition is fierce, and advancements in technology continually impact how we reach and touch our clients. The two strategies that will keep you ahead of the game, outpacing your competition, are personal responsibility and building connections.
Why? Personal responsibility puts you in control. Now you're taking ownership and embracing rather than resisting your reality. You're in charge of the only thing you can truly impact and what you can influence - YOU! When you take personal responsibility you keep your energy going into you, rather than wasting it on issues, challenges or problems you can't control. There is power in keeping your energy focused on you. Focused energy allows you to come up with innovative ideas, solutions and new opportunities to move you and your company forward. You'll easily identify the skills and tools you need to make succeeding in this economy fun, easy and effective.
With a good grasp on personal responsibility and your energy razor-focused, you can now turn your attention to building your connections. The power of connections continues to amaze me. The simple act of making connections will help you grow your business, shorten your sales cycles, attract more clients, and the list goes on. The more people you know, the more people you help, the more people will want to help you. The stronger your network, the more doors you'll open, the better support you will have, and the easier time you will have building your skills and finding the answers you need to grow and develop your business. Building connections has a high rate of return on investment for the minimal amount of time and effort it takes.
Yes, these are challenging times and things are changing at a rapid pace. If you want to succeed in this new economy, this trust and value economy, then you need to change too. You need a new game plan and a new strategy -- one that is rooted in personal responsibility and building connections.
