Every life form, from the very beginning of its existence, is in pursuit of just one thing, and that is Happiness!

We do things believing the particular activity will bring us happiness. However, the happiness that it brings is short lived; and often the same activity eventually ends up making us unhappy.

Why so?... Let’s learn from the following story.
Once upon a time, there lived a king, who despite his luxurious lifestyle was neither happy nor contented. He was always under stress and surrounded by worries.
One day, he saw one of his servants singing happily while he worked along. This fascinated the king. How was this low-class servant so happy when he, the supreme ruler of the land, was so unhappy and gloomy!

The king began to observe the servant in order to learn the secret of his happiness. He observed that the servant was happy because he didn't have anything to worry about. The servant worked hard to earn his bread, and because he worked hard, he slept well. He was happy with his work and his family.

This intrigued the king to learn more about happiness. He sought the advice of his most trusted advisor. The advisor said, "Your Majesty, I believe the servant is not a member of the 99 Club as yet!"

"The 99 Club - What’s that?" the king inquired. The advisor replied, "Your Majesty, have 99 gold coins placed in a bag and leave it at this servant's doorstep. Then see what happens." The king was astonished at the idea, “How can 99 coins give unhappiness to a person?” but he gave the orders.

When the servant saw the bag and opened it, he shouted with joy, “So many gold coins!” He began to count them. After several counts, he was convinced that there were only 99 coins in the bag! He wondered, "What could've happened to that last gold coin? Surely, no one would leave just 99 coins!" He looked everywhere for the hundredth coin, but that final coin was elusive. Finally exhausted, he decided that he was going to have to work harder than ever to earn that last gold coin to complete his collection.

Starting the next day, the servant's life had changed. He stopped singing while he worked. Rather, he was overworked, horribly grumpy, and he berated his family for not helping him to make that 100th gold coin. Witnessing this drastic transformation, the king was puzzled. The advisor said, "Your Majesty, the servant has now officially joined The 99 Club.” The 99 Club is a name given to those people who have enough to be happy but are never contented. They are always yearning and striving for that extra "1", telling themselves, "Let me get that 'one final thing' and then I will be happy for life."
We can be happy even with very little in our lives, but the minute we're given something bigger and better, we want even more! We lose our sleep and our happiness, and we hurt the people around us - this is the price we pay for our greed and desire. That's what the 99 Club is about.

So, one of the main reasons why mankind is in pursuit of happiness which they never find is: They have become a member of 99 club.
Param Pujya Dadashri says that by applying right understanding in every situation in life, one can very easily be happy. Here are some of the most simple sources of genuine happiness explained.

Gratitude is Happiness: Make a list of everything that has helped you reach the state that you are in today; every person, object and circumstance that has supported you to get to where you are right now; you are obliged to them all. Eg. Your ever-concerned parents. Have you noticed the life of any of your friends who are fatherless or have lost their mother? Your life is not as unfortunate, isn’t it?

Moreover, if you have passed the 10th grade at school, then you are more educated than 80% of India's population. If you have electricity 24 hours a day, then know that 75% of India does not have that facility. Also, you have a healthy body, good teachers, good guidance, tasty and nutritious food, novel scientific inventions, Internet, Google, your traditions, love from your elders, etc. Why become greedy to seek that 100th coin then? Note down the 99 things you have, instead and Be Happy.

•Staying in the present is Happiness: Suppose you think, “If I get such and such thing, I will be happy!” But do you have to remain unhappy until you obtain that thing? Be happy with that thing when it comes. But why remain unhappy until you have it? While you are reading this, you seem to be quite happy in the present moment. It is the past or the future that does not allow us to remain happy in the present. By remaining in the present, we automatically become happy.

•Encouragement is Happiness: When we encourage a person, it means we are boosting the positive points in the person; as a result he performs well in the team and we too become happy.

Forgiveness is Happiness: When someone hurts you, the easiest thing that you can do to be happy is forgive them for what they have done. Only then can you enjoy happiness. Instead of waiting to be happy after taking revenge, why not forgive him and become happy now.” The art of living is to have no enmity for anyone and become friends with the entire Universe.

•Helping others is Happiness: You Experience Happiness When You Adjust Everywhere!
Dadashri says, “A man came to me asking for my blessings. I placed my hand on his head and said, ‘From today onwards, you open a shop of happiness. Get rid of the old shop. What is a shop of happiness? It is a place from where you can give happiness to others, from the moment you wake up in the morning. There should be no other kind of dealing except for happiness.’ He understood this well. He started to practice it and became a happy man. When you start a shop of happiness, happiness will come to you and to those to whom you give happiness. Would you have a need to buy sweets from someone else's shop when you own one yourself? You will be able to eat them whenever you please. Similarly, if you open a shop of happiness, you will not have any problems.”
So come, let’s start a store of happiness NOW and be happy forever!!

•Attain True Happiness and Experience Eternal Bliss. True happiness cannot be experienced from anything external. You feel happy when someone praises you; however, that happiness is dependent on something external. True happiness is when your happiness remains unshaken even if someone insults you. Yes, happiness should be everlasting; once attained it should not leave. That is bliss. Eternal bliss; elemental bliss (bliss of the Soul) is such that it remains forever.

If one were to taste the happiness of the Soul only for a split second, that’s a very big thing! This true and permanent Happiness can be experienced once we attain Self Realization.
