Mantra for Healing

There was a time in my childhood when I was sick enough to die. The virus in my brain flooded the rest of me with pain, causing temporary paralysis, massive fever, and then coma. Eventually my personal ecosystem normalized, and for the most part I recovered. But the need to heal continues. Healing, after all, doesn't only mean recovery from illness.

Illness takes a tremendous toll on our physical and emotional well-being. Being in pain changes everything. The rest of your life stops. Whole careers can come shuddering to a halt to address a health crisis. Without our health, what do we have? Love. Love remains. But what if love turns sour and our hearts break, causing as much pain as any illness in a medical textbook? We still need healing, and then we can't turn to the latest pill.

Healing is not necessarily cure. Healing we all need. Cure is much more complicated. Healing is within our grasp.

In Kundalini Yoga, there is a powerful mantra for healing. The way that it heals is to tune a soul to the vibration of the Universe, which is pure and without disease or pain.

Called the Siri Gaitri Mantra and more commonly known as Ra Ma Da Sa, it holds within it eight sounds that stimulate the Kundalini flow within the central channel of the spine for healing. It brings balance into the core of our energetic body and flooding it with new energy.

Imagine a prism catching the light of the sun and refracting it out into a rainbow. This mantra does something similar with the healing energy of the Universe. It grabs onto the healing elixir of the Divine and allows you to steer it into a particular direction...either into yourself, into another person, the whole planet, or anything on which you focus your intention.

The words to this mantra are:
Ra Ma Da Sa Sa Say So Hung

Ra means the sun and connecting with that frequency gives you energy.

Ma means the moon and it aligns you with receptivity.

Da is the the energy of the Earth, grounding you in your roots.

Sa is Infinity and as you chant this, your energy rises upwards and outwards drawing in the healing the the Universe.

When you chant Sa a second time, you pull the energy of Infinity into you.

Say is a way of honoring the all-encompassing Thou. It is personal, like a secret name for God.

So is a vibration of merger.

Hung is the Infinite, the vibrating real. It is the essence of creation. (So Hung together means, I am Thou.)

In many traditions, healing is said to occur when you raise your vibration into Divine Alignment. According to the Law of Attraction, healing must occur if your vibration matches it. The Siri Gaitri Mantra is a way of raising your vibration to the frequency of Divine Healing.

Recently, my grandmother had a heart attack at Thanksgiving. I put out the word on Facebook, and many people responded by chanting Ra Ma Da Sa for her. She pulled through marvelously. Does that mean that she was healed by the chant? No. I can't prove that. But I can say that her level of grace through fear was remarkable, and that her recovery was swift. I can also say that it helped me through a challenging time. I felt it. The real question, of course, is can you?
